A new projection mapping show featuring traditional Japanese characters debuts at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. The Tokyo Transformation Chronicle - Spirits of Tokyo will begin showing on February 19th, 2026, as the first new work of the year.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has been presenting year-round projection mapping displays on the First Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building to promote nighttime tourism and create new tourist attractions that brighten Tokyo's nights. This iconic landmark serves as a canvas for diverse art expressed through light and sound.
The latest production is designed to convey Japanese traditions in a language-independent format, offering an experience of "pop Japanese-ness" that anyone can enjoy intuitively.

Title: Tokyo Transformation Chronicle - Spirits of Tokyo

Highlights:
This work depicts the diverse energy flowing through Tokyo as an experience of light. Countless characters embodying human activities, memories, wishes, desires, and playfulness gather as light and move through the city. From characters in old tales to auspicious icons seen during New Year celebrations, the presence that has colored Tokyo's daily life appears in a pop and comical way, drawing viewers into a Japanese worldview. At the climax, celebratory fireworks color the night sky, vividly projecting Tokyo's ever-changing vitality.

Active in video direction centered on large-scale video and projection mapping. In recent years, he has also worked on direction combining dolphin shows, performances, physical expression, and theatrical structures. Using diverse methods including drawing, 2D puppet animation, 3D animation, and AI, he doesn't position video as the main focus but rather layers video with human movement, space, sound, and the flow of time to create a single experience.

Produces a wide range of works from video production centered on CG animation and VFX to video works using digital art, projection mapping, LED, and spatial content utilizing interactive technology. In recent years, he has worked on numerous experiential show content.
