A newly rebranded hotel opens in Asakusa, one of Tokyo's most iconic tourist destinations. Hotel Amanek Asakusa Sakurabashi (formerly Smile Hotel Asakusa) welcomes guests starting December 29, 2025, offering 96 renovated rooms that blend traditional downtown atmosphere with contemporary comfort.
Growing Demand in Asakusa
Asakusa remains one of Japan's premier tourist destinations, attracting both domestic and international visitors with its rich cultural offerings. The area features iconic attractions like Senso-ji Temple, Tokyo Skytree, and Kappabashi Kitchenware Street, along with unique experiences such as kimono rentals, rickshaw rides, and yakatabune (traditional boat) cruises. The bustling Nakamise Shopping Street offers diverse street food and local delicacies including dojo (loach) dishes.
The hospitality industry is experiencing significant growth. International visitor arrivals to Japan reached 39.06 million by November 2025, surpassing previous records. In Taito Ward, where Asakusa is located, foreign tourist numbers have steadily increased since 2020. Notably, 57.2% of foreign visitors to Taito Ward stay for three nights or more, indicating strong demand for extended accommodations.
Hotel Amanek Asakusa Sakurabashi, the brand's second property in Asakusa, aims to serve as a comfortable and welcoming base for travelers under the brand concept of "connecting travel and the city as 'my hotel.'"
Design Inspired by Asakusa's Character

The entrance and lobby feature design elements inspired by the gentle ripples of the Sumida River. This motif extends throughout the hotel, with shared corridors and guest room floors incorporating the same pattern, creating a cohesive atmosphere that evokes Asakusa's waterfront charm and traditional character.
Comfortable Rooms Designed for Modern Travelers

Every room has been completely renovated with new interiors, furniture, and amenities, creating thoroughly modern accommodations. Triple rooms feature dedicated living spaces, providing comfortable areas where families and groups can relax together.

The hotel has redesigned its room layout, converting former single rooms into double rooms with a minimum capacity of two guests. This configuration better serves the needs of both domestic and international travelers.

Each bed includes approximately 30cm of under-bed storage space, allowing guests to neatly store large suitcases. This design maximizes space efficiency while maintaining comfort and functionality.
Enhanced Functionality and Convenience
The first floor has been thoughtfully redesigned to include a new luggage storage area in a discreet location facing the entrance and lobby. Guests can securely store their belongings before check-in, after check-out, or during their stay.
