Ambientec, the Japanese portable lighting brand, will begin selling its new model Still on May 21, 2026 at Ambientec Gallery and the official online store. Still was first unveiled at Milan Salone / Euroluce 2025 in April 2025.

Still inherits the aesthetic and structure of Ambientec's long-selling model Xtal. It features a simple form that highlights the texture of crystal glass, along with a gradient of light created by the combination of layered clear and colored glass.

The glass used in Still is a special laminated glass precisely bonded from three layers — two layers of clear glass and one layer of amber colored glass — with high transparency. The depth of the light glowing softly from within the material and the gentle color transitions create an expression that changes throughout the day and night. Each piece of this laminated glass is individually formed and polished by hand by skilled artisans. Bringing out beauty through the layers, thickness, and light transmission of the glass, Still is a portable lamp that creates a new texture by combining precision laminated glass with deep, layered light.

How Light Changes the Expression of the Clear Glass

The laminated glass, with its complex light refraction, diffusion, and reflection, changes its expression depending on the viewing angle and placement. The shadow color seen through sunlight turns into a transparent orange-brown. After dark, the light takes on a deep amber color reminiscent of whiskey. The depth of the inner light through the colored glass makes it something worth keeping close throughout the day and night.

A New Combination of Laminated Glass and Light

By combining laminated glass crafted through the precision skills of glass artisans with LED light, Still creates expressions of light that have not existed before. The weight that comes from finishing solid crystal glass by hand, combined with the light glowing from within, allows for a calm amber-toned space even at night.

Xtal and Still — The Charm of Outward vs. Inward Light

While Xtal excels at expressing light outward — through the delicacy of reflected shadows and the brilliance of its transparent crystal glass surfaces — Still is characterized by the beauty of light felt from the inside through the transmitted glass layers, offering a distinct contrast between how it looks in sunlight versus in the dark.
