Ayura marked its 30th anniversary last year and offered a hand cream, specially developed as an anniversary gift, as a limited-edition novelty. The gift drew praise for its scent and feel, with comments such as "the scent is soothing" and "it blends into the skin well without feeling sticky." Many customers also asked for it to be sold as a regular product, saying "I want to use it every day" and "please commercialize it."
Needs for Hand and Nail Care
Hands are constantly exposed to external irritants such as frequent hand washing, UV rays, and friction from daily life. Because their environment is harsher than that of the face, they are prone to dryness and damage, and signs of age tend to show there.
A survey of 1,000 women in their 20s to 60s about "body parts where aging signs are easily noticed" found that 1 in 2 answered "hands." Hands ranked second only to "face and neck," showing that many women are concerned about changes in their hands. Among those who answered "hands" (495 people), the survey then asked which part of the hands they especially want to care for. "Nails" ranked next after "back of the hand," which suggests strong interest in nail care in addition to hand skin care.
When those who said they want to care for their nails (213 people) were asked about their nail concerns, problems caused by dryness and damage came to the surface, such as "surface unevenness and vertical ridges," "lack of gloss and uneven color," and "splitting and chipping." Against the background of the growing popularity of the term "tsume-iku" (爪育, nail nurturing), there is also rising demand to "care for nails as well as hand skin" and to "care for nails strained by gel nails and similar treatments at the same time."
To respond to these customer voices and growing needs, Ayura is releasing Aromatic Hand & Nail, a hand cream that cares for hand skin and nails at the same time while letting users enjoy a scent unique to Ayura, in two fragrances.
