CAFÉ TANAKA, Nagoya-Born Café & Patisserie, Opens Its Second Kanto Location at Isetan Shinjuku on June 17

CAFÉ TANAKA, a café and patisserie established in 1963, is opening a permanent store on the basement 1st floor of Isetan Shinjuku Main Building on June 17, 2026. This will be the brand's second Kanto location.

Shinjuku is a place where diverse cultures and values converge. To mark the new store's arrival at one of the area's most iconic destinations, two types of Isetan Shinjuku exclusive cookie tins are being released.

The theme for the new store and its exclusive products is "Living Together" (ともに生きる).

From cacao grown on the distant West African island of São Tomé, to traditional ingredients passed down across Japan, and the dedicated producers who work in harmony with the land — CAFÉ TANAKA has long crafted confections not just by sourcing ingredients, but by connecting with the cultures, lives, and stories behind them. In these new exclusive tins, ingredients from around the world and across Japan are brought together, with each biscuit carrying its own story.

Isetan Shinjuku Exclusive Cookie Tin: "Bijou de Biscuit Petit McMillan" (¥3,510 incl. tax)

This exclusive tin is dressed in the McMillan tartan — the signature pattern of Isetan Shinjuku. Conceived under the concept of "returning to origins, stepping into a new future," it brings together longstanding tradition and a contemporary sensibility. The striking palette of green, red, and yellow evokes warmth and vibrancy, capturing the sense of occasion that Isetan Shinjuku is known for.

Each biscuit is distinct: the rich base of butter, the toasty warmth of nuts, the lingering hint of spice, and the gentle sweetness and tartness of fruit. New additions to the lineup include Sablé Citron Yuzu, Sablé Nantes Raisin, and Sablé de Soleil Shiratamazato, alongside popular classics. A tin that feels classic yet perfectly at home in everyday teatime.

Born under the theme of "Living Together," this tin features two types of cookie sandwiches. A cream made from Hiruzen Jersey fermented butter is layered with confit of whole yuzu from Umaji Village in Kochi Prefecture, and compote of out-of-standard Kyoho grapes from Yamanashi Prefecture.

Two sablé varieties are used: one made with shiratamazato (white sugar) passed down since the Edo period in Geisei Village, Kochi, and one made with cacao from São Tomé island in West Africa. A limited-edition tin that places new value on out-of-standard fruit and reflects the spirit of "living together" across regions, ingredients, and people.

About RÉGAL DE CHIGIRO

RÉGAL DE CHIGIRO (レガル・ド・チヒロ) is the main brand from CAFÉ TANAKA, featuring sweets crafted from ingredients personally sourced and verified by Chef Chihiro Tanaka through visits to producers at home and abroad. Starting from its signature cookie tins launched in 2010, the brand has since expanded into chocolate tins, gelato tins, and original tea tins. Location-exclusive products incorporating ingredients unique to each region are also part of the lineup.

CAFÉ TANAKA's Approach to Cookies

Cookies begin with just three simple ingredients — flour, butter, and sugar. At CAFÉ TANAKA, the focus is on drawing out the full character of each ingredient through traditional French pastry techniques.

The toasty aroma of baked flour, the rich fragrance of quality butter — with each bite, the differences in texture (crisp, flaky, crumbly) and the subtle sweetness from carefully chosen sugars come through. These qualities are brought out by fully "baking through" the dough. Attention is also given to the interplay and balance of flavors within each tin, so that the combination of cookies offers a layered experience akin to a full-course meal.
