DEPOT Bar at Tokyo Station to Feature Edel Pils at Beer Meister DAY Events Every Wednesday in July

DEPOT, a nostalgic bar and café on the basement level of JR Tokyo Station's GranSta shopping complex, is hosting a series of Beer Meister DAY events every Monday and Wednesday throughout July 2026. On Wednesdays specifically, the events will spotlight Sapporo Beer's Edel Pils, a super-premium pilsner brewed exclusively with fine aroma hops from Saaz, Czech Republic. Guests can compare six distinct pouring styles, each served in a different glass or mug—several of which are now discontinued and collected personally by Beer Meister Satoshi Hayashi.

The event's regular pourer is Kurumi Nanbu, who joined the Beer Meister DAY lineup in April of this year. Nanbu's passion for Edel Pils was sparked after tasting it at a beer hall, and her appreciation for its rich aroma and deep flavor led her to organize this collaboration. On the final event day, Wednesday, July 29, celebrated Beer Meister Satoshi Hayashi—who holds more Beer Meister certifications from different Japanese breweries than anyone else in the country—will step in as the guest pourer.

Edel Pils is available on draft using DEPOT's retro swing-tap and ice-cooled beer servers.

Six Pouring Styles

Ichi-doi (Single Pour) — ¥1,080 (Showa-era discontinued mug)

Poured vigorously through the retro tap to build a frothy head, this method draws out the aroma of the fine Saaz hops. The result is crisp and refreshing—ideal as a first drink.

Ni-doi (Double Pour) — ¥880 (Heisei-era discontinued tumbler)

After an initial pour, a second layer of gentle foam—achievable only with the retro tap—is added on top. The flavor of the Edel Pils comes through fully while the texture remains smooth, extending the pleasant finish.

San-doi (Triple Pour) — ¥880 (Sapporo original glass)

Based on the German-style method recommended by Sapporo Beer, this pour produces a fluffy soufflé-like head with a pronounced bitterness.

Maestro — ¥1,080 (Reiwa-era discontinued mug)

Inspired by a Czech pouring technique adapted in two stages, this style takes its cue from a master pourer at Shimbashi's Bierreise 98. The result is a well-balanced glass that highlights the sweetness of the malt.

Sharp Pour — ¥880 (discontinued thin-stemmed glass)

The most straightforward Japanese-style pour, this method preserves the beer's natural carbonation and produces a creamy, compact head.

Mirko — ¥600 (discontinued stemmed glass)

A Czech-style foam-only pour. The foam produced by the retro server carries a high liquid content and delivers an intense hit of Edel Pils' hop aroma.

About Satoshi Hayashi

Born in 1994 and a former apparel store employee, Hayashi discovered his passion for beer after a chance visit to a bar left a lasting impression. He went on to work at more than ten renowned beer establishments to hone his craft, ultimately becoming one of the few people in Japan to earn Beer Meister certifications from every major Japanese brewery. He has also collaborated with prominent names in the industry, and his goal is to share his skills broadly so that more people can enjoy a perfectly poured glass of beer.
