Experience Wakayama's Traditional Culture with Special "Kishu Temari" Display at FANCL Ginza Square

Published: January 20, 2026

FANCL Ginza Square, the flagship store of FANCL Corporation, is participating in Matsuya's "Regional Co-creation Initiative" by hosting a special display themed "Connect" featuring Kishu Temari. The event will be held from January 20 (Tuesday) to March 16 (Monday), 2026.

Matsuya Corporation launched the "Regional Co-creation Initiative" in December 2020 with the mission of preserving traditional crafts, industries, and culture from across Japan while creating new opportunities and fostering development. This project not only uses regional attractions and tradition-based craftsmanship in store decorations and window displays but also lends installation materials to other companies to promote and spread authentic sustainability and circulation throughout Japan.

This collaboration marks the fourth time the two companies have worked together, united by their shared vision of creating a sustainable circular society.

About Kishu Temari

Kishu Temari are handmade ornamental balls from Wakayama that have long been cherished by princesses in feudal palaces and passed down through generations. Each ball is carefully crafted stitch by stitch with heartfelt wishes. Traditionally, mothers would create these balls for their daughters getting married, imbuing them with wishes that "things will work out smoothly" and "may you have healthy children (prosperity of descendants)."

Today, they are customarily given as auspicious gifts for important life events such as births, marriages, and relocations. The beautiful color combinations and intricate craftsmanship are highly valued.

About Kishu Hina

Kishu Hina are palm-sized round Hina dolls made using the techniques of Kishu lacquerware, a traditional craft of Wakayama Prefecture. Each doll is carefully handcrafted by traditional craft masters of Kishu lacquerware, embodying the skilled techniques of this traditional art.
