From February 19 to March 11, 2026, Wako Ginza will host "Danish modern design meets Asian crafts," a special exhibition curated by guest curator Kojiro Nagumo. The event takes place at the Arts and Culture floor in the basement of the main store, featuring Nordic furniture combined with chinoiserie carpets and Japanese crafts.
About the Exhibition
Arts and Culture, which opened on July 20, 2024, operates under the concept of "Theatre of Time." The space showcases Japanese aesthetics born from the changing seasons and relationship with nature, while highlighting traditions, techniques, and craftsmanship that have been passed down through generations.
The exhibition features Nordic furniture that has been crafted for over half a century, carrying on the philosophies of masters like Kaare Klint and Hans J. Wegner. These pieces possess timeless universality and sculptural beauty that transcends their functional purpose as furniture, creating a comfortable presence in any space. Their designs, inherited across generations, embody sustainable values essential for our times.

The exhibition centers on chairs while also introducing side tables, chests, and other furniture pieces that share similar design principles.
Additionally, the display features carpets that revive the chinoiserie style, a decorative tradition inspired by Eastern aesthetics that Europeans have long admired. By combining these carpets with Nordic furniture, the exhibition proposes a refined modern living space. Classical Chinese designs and Danish furniture, which was greatly influenced by them, reunite today in a new style.

Complementing these pieces are familiar Arts and Culture items including flower baskets, pottery by modern Japanese Mingei movement artists, modern copper works that flourished in post-war Japan, and contemporary craft works in wood and metalwork. Experience the harmonious dialogue of quality and value across time, and enjoy this narrative of beauty that continues from past to future.
