Fuji-Q Highland's Fujiyama - King of Coasters Gets New Blue-Flame Train "SOURYU" for Its 30th Anniversary, Running from November 21

Fuji-Q Highland in Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture, will begin running "SOURYU," a new train that inherits the design of the original train, on its large roller coaster Fujiyama - King of Coasters from Saturday, November 21, 2026, in celebration of the coaster's 30th anniversary.

When Fujiyama - King of Coasters opened in 1996, it was certified with world records in four categories: top speed, maximum drop, highest point, and lift height. It still boasts world-class specifications today, and it has carried more than 29 million riders in total, delivering thrills and excitement to many guests.

Appearing for the 30th anniversary, SOURYU inherits the flame motif drawn on the original train. Its jet-black body is decorated with blue flames and golden horns. Because its running form is reminiscent of a blue dragon soaring through the Fuji sky, it was named SOURYU.

Fujiyama - King of Coasters has so far introduced a variety of distinctive trains, including the gold-leaf train "Fujiyama Kintaro" (フジヤマ金太郎, 2002), the silver-leaf train "Fujiyama Ginji" (フジヤマ銀次, 2003), the mirror-finished "Fujiyama Kyoko" (フジヤマ鏡子, 2013), "Third-Generation Kintaro" (三代目 金太郎, 2016), whose gold-leaf body is decorated with a phoenix, and "Fujiyama Pearl-chan" (フジヤマパールちゃん, 2017), which changes into various colors depending on how the light hits it. Carrying on that lineage, SOURYU, with an imposing appearance as if it had descended from the demon realm, invites riders into a new Fujiyama world filled with screams and excitement.

On the launch day, November 21, a special event called "SOURYU First Ride" will be held for members of Fuji-Q Highland's official paid fan community "Zekkyo Kaiwai" (絶叫界隈), giving them a chance to ride the new train first. People who are not yet members can also join in advance and apply. The participation fee is 3,000 yen (tax included), and spots are limited to 28 people through an advance lottery. For details such as how to join and the lottery application period, please check the special website.

Participants will receive an original SOURYU uniform and have a commemorative photo taken at the Fujiyama - King of Coasters platform, making it a special 30th-anniversary experience. On the same day, all Zekkyo Kaiwai members will also be able to take part in a special program offering unlimited priority boarding on Fujiyama - King of Coasters, as many times as they like. Not only First Ride participants but also every Zekkyo Kaiwai member visiting the park that day can fully enjoy this memorable day for the coaster's 30th anniversary.

With the arrival of SOURYU, Fujiyama - King of Coasters, now 30 years old, begins a new chapter in its history.

About Fujiyama - King of Coasters

In 1996, when "rotations" such as loops and screws were all the rage, Fujiyama - King of Coasters was born as a classic large coaster without a loop, built at a cost of 3 billion yen. It pursued a layout that lets riders fully enjoy the "bright, fun thrills" and the "real pleasure of a coaster" that are the roots of the roller coaster. At its opening it was certified with four world records: a top speed of 130 km/h, a maximum drop of 70 m, a highest point of 79 m, and a lift height of 71.5 m. Since then, it has shifted the mainstream of coasters in Japan from "rotation" to "the changing pace and speed of ups and downs," and it remains a roller coaster with world-class specifications.
