Fujie Textile Debuts at Interior Lifestyle with a Textile Art Collection

Fujie Textile will make its debut appearance at Interior Lifestyle, taking place at Tokyo Big Sight from Wednesday, June 10 to Friday, June 12, 2026. From its Textile Art Collection — which carries on the philosophy of "Heartart," the idea of bringing art to the heart — the company will exhibit Between black & white, a collaborative work with graphic designer Kazuki Kobayashi. The exhibition will be held in the "MOVEMENT" zone, a curated section spotlighting the world's latest designs recommended by the event organizers.

Fujie Textile views fabric not merely as a functional product, but as art — a perspective that allows the appeal of materials and techniques to be expressed more freely. The Textile Art Collection was developed to convey the textures, depth, and warmth that only handcrafted textiles can offer, presenting each piece as a work of art in its own right.

From Product to "Art" — A New Value for Textiles

1970s Heartart

Fujie Textile has been developing textile designs since the 1960s. In the 1970s, under the philosophy of "bringing art to the heart," the company launched Heartart. Going beyond products such as curtains and cushions, Fujie Textile has long championed the idea that textiles can be enjoyed freely in everyday spaces — much like hanging a piece of art on a wall.

The Textile Art Collection launched in 2023, building on the Heartart legacy. While textiles are an integral part of daily life — from clothing and curtains to bedding — Japan is home to many little-known textile makers and exceptional weaving and dyeing traditions. Fujie Textile has placed a spotlight on these crafts, developing this collection to share the possibilities and joy that textiles can offer. Presented as art that adorns living spaces, the works in this collection allow for freer and more diverse forms of expression.

The first installment, Hikaru Yama (Glowing Mountain), was a collaboration between Nishijin-ori Kinran — a weaving tradition with 1,200 years of history — and design studio Tansan Design-shitsu. The second installment, Between black & white, was created in partnership with Kyoto artisans skilled in hand screen printing (te-nassen) and graphic designer Kazuki Kobayashi.

Making of Between black & white

The Between black & white series showcases scenes and memories drawn from everyday life, filtered through the distinctive sensibility of graphic designer Kazuki Kobayashi. Kobayashi's designs are then meticulously hand-printed by Kyoto artisans using te-nassen, yielding a collection of 23 patterns. While a handful of pieces are currently on view at the Fujie Textile showroom, this exhibition marks the first opportunity to see all 23 patterns together in the Kanto region since the gallery stoop exhibition in June 2025.

At Interior Lifestyle, the works will be presented in the "MOVEMENT" zone — a space where design and creative expression take center stage — offering a fresh perspective on what fabric can be when viewed through the lens of art.
