Ginza Tatsutano, a Japanese sweets shop founded in 1895, is opening a new location in Yokohama Motomachi on September 14.
The long-established shop, known for its traditional sweets, closed in 2021 amid the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, much to the regret of its many loyal customers. Thanks to continued support from fans and the dedication of those involved, the brand was revived in 2023 with the opening of a shop in Jiyugaoka.
This new location marks a relocation from that Jiyugaoka shop to Yokohama Motomachi. The brand previously operated two shops in Yokohama, and "Ginza Tatsutano Yokohama Motomachi" opens on Monday, September 14, 2026, as a new base for delighting customers in the city once again.
What to Expect at Ginza Tatsutano Yokohama Motomachi
Traditional sweets carrying on the shop's founding flavors
Using its signature original peeled anko, the shop offers classic sweets such as anmitsu, oshiruko, and zenzai, along with its summer specialty, Uji Kintoki shaved ice, to be enjoyed in a calm, traditional Japanese setting.
Kamameshi, the shop's signature dish, cooked one pot at a time
Each kamameshi is cooked to order, letting dashi made fresh every morning and the flavor of the ingredients soak into every grain of rice. Alongside the classic gomoku kamameshi, the shop offers a range of kamameshi varieties, including seasonal menus made with carefully selected ingredients of the season. Diners can enjoy the fragrant aroma of freshly cooked rice, the crispy okoge (crust) that stays delicious to the last bite, and the gentle harmony of the ingredients.
A nodate-gasa parasol and an elegant wa-modern space
The storefront features a red nodate-gasa (outdoor tea ceremony parasol) alongside hinoki-wood seating and an outdoor bench, blending the atmosphere of a traditional outdoor tea house with a refined wa-modern design that fits the streets of Motomachi. The open, relaxed seating area invites guests to unwind and take their time. Customers with pets are also welcome.

The gomoku kamameshi, the shop's most popular dish.
