Grand Hyatt Tokyo Launches Its First-Ever Italian "Merenda" Afternoon Tea

Starting June 1, 2026, Fiorentina, the Italian café on the first floor of Grand Hyatt Tokyo in Roppongi Hills, will begin serving the hotel's first-ever Italian afternoon tea: the "Italian Merenda Afternoon Tea."

The concept is inspired by "Merenda" — the Italian tradition of enjoying light snacks and sweets during the afternoon as a moment of relaxation. The word refers to a leisurely pause with something sweet or light, embodying Italy's rich food culture of savoring life's small pleasures. This afternoon tea brings that Italian spirit to Roppongi, offering an elegant experience reminiscent of a quiet afternoon in Italy.

Sweets

The sweet lineup centers on classic Italian confections: tiramisu with a pronounced espresso flavor, amaretti infused with the aromatic notes of amaretto liqueur, and cannoli — the Sicilian specialty featuring a crisp shell filled with custard cream. These are complemented by a variety of Italian pastries showcasing the breadth of the country's confectionery tradition.

Through August 31, 2026, additional seasonal items will be available, including a lemon-shaped ricotta cheese mousse fragrant with Sicilian lemon, a smooth panna cotta combining mango and passion fruit, and a lemon sherbet garnished with lemon zest — lighter options suited to the summer heat.

Chef's Comments

Yusuke Haiduka, Head Chef at Fiorentina

"For this first afternoon tea at Fiorentina, I wanted to create a menu where guests can fully enjoy both the sweets and savory dishes. I took classic Italian dishes familiar in Italy and added my own arrangements to highlight the appeal of Italian cuisine. I also incorporated house-made breads from the adjacent pastry boutique, so guests can taste something unique to this restaurant."

Yuta Sensui, Head Pastry Chef

"For this afternoon tea, I kept the essence of Italy's beloved sweets at the forefront while crafting a composition that feels light and refreshing for the warm season. In addition to classics like tiramisu and cannoli, I incorporated lemon and tropical fruits to add a fresh accent to the flavors. I also introduced a playful visual element — such as the lemon-shaped mousse — so guests can enjoy the experience with their eyes as well as their palate."
