Hakone Hotel Kowakien, located in the Ninotaira area of Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture (General Manager: Kiyotsugu Sakamoto), is a family-friendly property with hot springs, nature, and dining that welcomes guests even with babies or small children. From Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the hotel began a la carte sales of Kowakien Ramen and Kowakien Katayakisoba at its first-floor restaurant, Fontainebleau.
Even in the days of its predecessor, Hakone Hotel Kowakien was loved by many guests not only for its hot springs and the natural beauty of Hakone, but also for its signature dishes. These two items in particular have been popular menu favorites since that earlier era, cherished across generations, which is why the hotel has decided to bring them back.
In 1952, Hakone Kowakien began operating a poultry farm that used geothermal heat from its hot springs. The chicken coops were later expanded, eventually raising up to 20,000 chickens at their peak. This effort gave rise to Kowakien's signature chicken, which has long been a familiar and important ingredient for the property, enjoyed by many guests over the years.
Both revived dishes feature a thick sauce made with chicken bone broth. Kowakien Ramen is also topped with fried chicken (karaage) in addition to the sauce.
This summer, the restaurant's seating area was expanded, creating an open, spacious dining space overlooking the property's prized garden. Guests can now savor these time-honored Kowakien specialties to the fullest in this new setting.
