THE SUMO LIVE RESTAURANT HIRAKUZA GINZA TOKYO, an inbound-focused Sumo entertainment show restaurant in Ginza, is running a summer event called "Ginza de Dosukoi! Cool Down! 2026" from July 7 (Tuesday) to August 18 (Tuesday), 2026. Built around the idea of offering the "coolest yet hottest" Japanese cultural experience in Ginza, the event mixes a Tanabata tradition, seasonal drinks, and the excitement of Sumo for guests looking for a break from the summer heat.
Event Highlights
Make a Wish: Tanabata Tanzaku Experience
Guests can take part in Japan's Tanabata festival by writing a wish on a tanzaku paper strip and hanging it on a bamboo branch. The bamboo display is set up in the facility's elevator hall, and anyone visiting is welcome to join in.
Refresh Your Senses: Limited-Time Summer Drinks
A lineup of visually cooling, limited-time summer drinks is available both at the adjoining sake bar, "Nada's Sake THE Bar," and during the Sumo show itself.

Collect & Enjoy: Drink Stamp Rally
Each group receives one stamp card, earning a stamp for every drink ordered. Guests who collect three stamps receive an original HIRAKUZA souvenir, with multiple designs available so guests can try again for a different one. The rally is also open to guests who visit only the sake bar. Cards are handed out on arrival, and staff add a stamp each time a drink is served.
Sumo Uchiwa Fan Giveaway
Guests holding a performance ticket who join the post-show commemorative photo session receive an original Sumo-themed uchiwa fan, while supplies last.

Why a "Cool Refuge" This Summer
Tokyo's summers have grown more intense in recent years: 2025 Japan Meteorological Agency data put the average daily high in central Tokyo at 32–34°C across July and August, with roughly 90 days a year reaching 30°C or higher. HIRAKUZA GINZA is positioning its indoor Sumo-and-dining experience as a "cool refuge" from that heat, pairing a comfortable, air-conditioned environment with a Sumo and Japanese culture experience that still delivers plenty of excitement.
Timed to Two Tanabata Dates
The event begins July 7, marking the modern-calendar Tanabata, and closes August 18, the day before "Traditional Tanabata" (August 19, 2026), the lunar-calendar date set each year by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan — HIRAKUZA GINZA is closed on the 19th itself. Spanning both dates ties into the restaurant's "Edo Spirit – Sumo & Culture Experience" concept, extending it from Sumo, cuisine, and sake into Japan's traditional sense of the calendar, which was itself lunar-based during the Edo period.
