Tokyo Beer Hall & Beer Terrace 14 Launches Jalapeño Lager for Its 14th Anniversary Beer Series

Tokyo Beer Hall & Beer Terrace 14 (Ichiyon) in Tokyo's Marunouchi is marking its 14th anniversary with the second release in its "14th Terrace Beer Series" — a collaboration with Coedo Brewery called Jalapeño Lager. The beer goes on sale in limited quantities starting in August 2026.

A Terrace Worth Sticking Around For

Fourteen years in, the restaurant's biggest draw is still its terrace. To mark the anniversary, Ichiyon and Coedo Brewery are brewing three original beers under the theme "a beer you'll want to drink out on the terrace." The first release, available from spring through early summer, was Jasmine Saison — a beer with a gentle, floral aroma suited to the season's pleasant weather and cool breeze. It went on to win a Bronze Medal at the Australian International Beer Awards 2026, one of the world's largest international beer competitions.

Jalapeño Lager: Enjoying Summer Through Aroma, Not Heat

The second release is built around "a refreshing way to get through the height of summer — a playful glass that makes the heat part of the fun." Fresh jalapeños are steeped into the beer right after processing, drawing out a green, fresh, faintly fruity aroma while keeping the spiciness restrained. The beer finishes dry, with a hint of yuzu lingering in the aftertaste that eases the heat and invites another sip — and another dish.

A Light Japanese Lager Rounded Out with Rice and Yuzu

The base is a clear, golden Japanese lager. Rice gives the beer a clean mouthfeel and finish while preserving the malt's mellow sweetness. A small amount of yuzu grown in Saitama Prefecture is used as a hidden accent to bring out the jalapeño's fruity aroma, balancing scent, crispness, and spice.

A Terrace Glass Meant to Be Paired with Food

The green aroma and gentle spice are designed to cut through the richness of fried food, spicy dishes, and meat, bringing out their savory depth. It pairs naturally with french fries and pizza, as well as spicier meat dishes. Ichiyon suggests enjoying it on the greenery-lined terrace alongside a midsummer meal.

Comment from Coedo Brewery's Watanabe

"Rather than turning up the heat, we wanted to bring out the green, fresh aroma that's unique to fresh jalapeños, along with a subtle fruitiness. The clean finish from the rice retains the malt's mellow character, and a hidden touch of yuzu rounds out the aroma. It's a beer you can drink on its own, but I think it's turned out to be one that really brings out the best in food, too."

About Coedo Brewery

COEDO is a brewery from Kawagoe, Saitama, founded by Kyodo Shoji Co., Ltd., a company that has worked with organically and specially cultivated produce since the 1970s. Brewing began in 1996, inspired by finding new uses for off-grade Beniaka sweet potatoes — a local specialty grown through a circular farming method using fallen-leaf compost — and for barley grown as a green manure crop to prevent continuous-cropping damage.

Under the concept "Beer Beautiful," and led by its signature Beniaka beer, COEDO channels the meticulous craftsmanship of Japanese artisans and the idea of "freely choosing your beer" to share the rich flavor of beer alongside the appeal of agriculture in the Musashino region.

The brewery has received awards at international competitions including the World Beer Cup in Chicago, the European Beer Star in Nuremberg, and iTQi in Brussels, earning global recognition for its quality and brand design, and its beers are exported to multiple countries.

In July 2020, COEDO opened COEDO BREWERY THE RESTAURANT, a new-style restaurant attached to a brewery, along with COEDOKIOSK, a small shop offering draft beer to go in refillable growlers, at the west exit of Kawagoe Station, under the concept of "co-creating a town built around a brewery."

In Japanese, "ale" (the beer style) and "yell" (a cheer of support) are pronounced the same way. Through the COEDO YELL PROJECT, the brewery plays on this coincidence, brewing special anniversary ales as a way of sending a "yell" to mark milestones for the many organizations it has worked with.
