Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo Celebrates 160 Years of Japan-Italy Relations with "Italia in Festa 2026"

Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo (Bunkyo, Tokyo; General Manager: Tomohiko Chihiro) is set to launch "Italia in Festa 2026," a fair celebrating the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Italy, starting Saturday, August 1, 2026.

Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo has long welcomed guests from Japan and abroad while sharing Japan's aesthetic sensibilities and culture with the world. Japan and Italy have deepened exchanges across a wide range of fields — food, art, and lifestyle — since the signing of the Japan-Italy Treaty of Amity and Commerce in 1866.

To mark this milestone of 160 years of diplomatic relations, "Italia in Festa 2026" will span the hotel's restaurants, accommodations, lounges, and bar, allowing guests to experience the culinary culture and lifestyle of both countries through food, wine, and atmospheric décor. The event is held with official authorization from the Embassy of Italy in Japan to use the "160th Anniversary of Japan-Italy Diplomatic Relations" commemorative logo.

Special Programs at Il Teatro: Italian Cuisine Celebrating 160 Years

Il Teatro, the hotel's main dining restaurant specializing in Italian cuisine, will present a special course that fuses the culinary cultures and traditions of Japan and Italy. A wine fair spanning Italy from south to north, as well as Maker's Dinners featuring visiting producers, are also planned.

The menus are crafted by Executive Chef フォルコリン・アルベルト (originally from Veneto, Italy), who expresses the history of cultural exchange between the two countries through dishes that blend Italian techniques with Japanese ingredients, fermentation culture, and seasonal sensibility.

The signature pasta of the course is a ravioli made from rice flour — a nod to Japan's rice culture — filled with a rich ragù made from guinea fowl, embodying the fusion of Japanese and Italian culinary traditions.

Additional course highlights include an appetizer combining porcini mushrooms and matsutake, a risotto made with barley and sake lees, and a fish dish featuring hairtail fish with sweet potato, all interweaving ingredients and techniques from both nations.

Throughout the fair period, a glass wine fair will be held, offering guests the chance to experience the appeal of different Italian regions through wine. August features "The Brilliance of Southern Italy," September to early October features "The Craftsmanship of Central Italy," and from mid-October, "The Tradition and Elevation of Northern Italy" — a total of 27 wines representing the unique terroir and culture of each region, paired with Il Teatro's cuisine.

Maker's Dinners featuring visiting producers will also be held. On Thursday, September 3, the renowned Tuscan winery "Il Borro" (managed by the Ferragamo family) will be represented, and on Friday, October 23, the historic Piedmont winery "Borgogno" will be featured. Guests will enjoy special pairing experiences while connecting with the stories and passion of the producers — an experience beyond what is typically available in regular restaurant visits.

From Saturday, August 1, the restaurant will also feature a special interior display themed "Italy on the Table." In collaboration with Alessi Japan — the Japanese arm of iconic Italian brand ALESSI — iconic tableware and objects will be displayed, expressing the Italian lifestyle that brings playfulness and aesthetic sensibility to everyday life. Through food, wine, and atmosphere alike, guests can fully immerse themselves in the appeal of Italian culture.

Italy-Japan Celebrations Across the Hotel: Sushi & Wine, Anniversary Stays, and Exhibitions

During the fair period, Italy-Japan 160th anniversary programs will also unfold across the hotel's various venues.

At Japanese restaurant Miyuki, the sushi counter will offer pairings of sushi with Italian wines selected by a sommelier specializing in Italian wine, introducing guests to a new encounter between Japan's iconic culinary tradition and Italian wine.

At the teppanyaki counter, a special fair-limited dish will be served: the hotel's traditional "nasu no shigitaki" (simmered eggplant), reimagined in an Italian style as "nasu no shigitaki tsutsumiyaki — tomato kaori" (wrapped and grilled eggplant with the fragrance of tomato), finished with cheese and semi-dried tomatoes for a flavor that blends the food cultures of both countries.

At the lobby lounge Le Jardin, a "kakigori — awayu tiramisu" is available, combining Japan's shaved-ice culture with one of Italy's most beloved desserts.

At the main bar Le Marquis, a pairing featuring gianduja chocolate from Caffarel — an iconic Italian chocolate brand from Turin celebrating its 200th anniversary this year — and gelato finished with their chocolate spread "Cremosa" will be offered to make for a memorable evening.

For a limited period from Tuesday, September 15 to Monday, November 9, a stay plan combining the anniversary dinner at Il Teatro with accommodation will be available. Le Ciel, the exclusive lounge for suite room guests, decorated with elements of traditional Japanese culture and craft, will also offer light meals and sweets featuring Italian wines and Italian ingredients.

Additionally, a showcase on the third floor near Il Teatro will feature an exhibition on Italian culture, in cooperation with the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Japan, including award-winning design works from an olive oil contest, introducing guests to the wonders of Italian food culture and craftsmanship.

Across the hotel's restaurants, bar, lounge, accommodations, and exhibition space, "Italia in Festa 2026" offers an immersive journey through the cultures and charms of Japan and Italy, like traveling through Italy itself.
