JW Marriott Hotel Tokyo Launches Autumn Promotion Inspired by Takanawa's "Nijuroku-ya-machi" Moon-Waiting Tradition

JW Marriott Hotel Tokyo (2-21-2 Takanawa, Minato-ku, Tokyo), which opened in October 2025 on the upper floors of TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY, the new district in Tokyo's Takanawa area, will roll out an autumn promotion from September 1, 2026 (Tuesday), inspired by "Nijuroku-ya-machi," a moon-waiting tradition passed down in Takanawa since the Edo period.

The promotion reinterprets Takanawa's moon-viewing legacy for the present day through wellness and gourmet dining, offering a moon-waiting experience unique to this hotel.

Highlights include "Floating Sound Bath," where guests float on the water's surface in a hushed nighttime pool and let the sound of crystal bowls wash over them; a delicate limited-edition croissant illustrated with the 26th-night moon; a moon-viewing burger and original cocktail; seasonal Japanese cuisine showcasing autumn's harvest; and autumn seasonal cocktails made with KI NO BI, the premium craft gin from Kyoto.

Edo Elegance Meets Mindfulness: The Story Behind "Nijuroku-ya-machi"

During the Edo period, the coastline stretching from Takanawa — where the hotel now stands — to Shinagawa was known as a celebrated moon-viewing spot, drawing crowds who gathered to await the moon's rise. "Nijuroku-ya-machi" refers to the custom of gathering on the 26th night of the lunar calendar to wait for moonrise. It's said that on the night of the 26th day of the seventh lunar month in particular, large crowds would gather along the Takanawa-to-Shinagawa shoreline, sharing food, drink, and conversation as they waited for the moon to appear.

Throughout the hotel, design touches echoing Takanawa's nature and history bring moon motifs into the space. Set against this beautiful local story, the promotion offers a mindful autumn escape from the city's hustle — turning attention to the present moment for an experience that satisfies both mind and body.

Guided through deep breathing and meditation, the session offers a mindful escape from everyday noise, drawing attention to the present moment.
