Kawagoe Prince Hotel's "Koedo Fluffy Snow Shaved Ice" Returns for Summer 2026 with New Half-Size Option

Kawagoe Prince Hotel's Japanese restaurant "Washoku Musashino" on the 2nd floor will once again offer "Koedo Fluffy Snow Shaved Ice — Compare Your Favorite Flavors" this summer, running from July 2 (Thursday) to September 30 (Wednesday), 2026. The dessert is made with pure ice crafted from natural spring water sourced from the Oku-Chichibu mountain range.

Following multiple requests from guests who wanted to enjoy it after a meal, the menu this year adds a new half-size option at ¥800. The standard size remains at ¥1,600. The half-size is available exclusively to guests dining at the restaurant. Three flavors that proved especially popular last year have been selected: "Honey & Lemon," "'Amarin' Strawberry," and "Kawagoe Matcha."

Saitama Prefecture is known as one of Japan's hottest regions, with 53 days exceeding 35°C recorded last year alone. Since the hotel sits directly connected to Hon-Kawagoe Station on the Seibu Shinjuku Line, it has offered shaved ice since 2023 as a way to beat the heat while enjoying local specialty ingredients.

This Year's Highlights

  1. A new half-size (¥800) makes it easy to enjoy as an after-meal dessert
  2. Three of last year's most popular flavors are continuing
  3. Choose 2 from 7 syrups to create your own flavor combination

How to Enjoy

  1. First, savor the fluffy, snow-like texture on its own.
  2. Add the base syrup that comes with your chosen flavor.
  3. Pick 2 additional syrups and compare the taste as you go.

The flavor gradually changes as you eat — enjoy it right through to the last bite.

Oku-Chichibu Pure Ice

Oku-Chichibu pure spring water ice

The foundation of the dessert is "Oku-Chichibu Gensen Pure Ice" — block ice made from transparent, odorless natural water drawn from snowmelt in the Oku-Chichibu mountain range. The ice is crushed and refined for a uniform texture, producing the delicate, soft-as-snow consistency that defines the experience.

"Amarin" Strawberry

Saitama is the first prefecture in Japan to be recognized as a "Premium Strawberry Prefecture" by the Japan Vegetable Sommelier Association. This flavor uses "Amarin," one of Saitama's branded strawberry varieties, known for its deep sweetness and floral aroma. The strawberries are carefully simmered into a syrup that preserves the fruit's texture.

Kawagoe Matcha

Kawagoe matcha shaved ice

Made exclusively from tea leaves cultivated in traditional tea gardens within the former Kawagoe domain, this flavor brings out the deep umami and mellow sweetness that Kawagoe matcha is known for. A homemade matcha pudding is hidden inside, waiting to be discovered as you work through the dessert.

Honey & Lemon

Honey and lemon shaved ice

A combination of honey's gentle sweetness and the bright acidity of lemon makes this a refreshing choice for summer. The syrup is made by marinating lemons in honey and is served generously over the ice.

7 Available Syrups (Choose 2)

Apricot, Honey & Lemon, "Amarin" Strawberry, Condensed Milk, Kagamiyama Sake Lees, Anko (Sweet Red Bean), Kawagoe Matcha

Mix and match two syrups to enjoy the shaved ice just the way you like it.
