MIDTOWN OPEN THE PARK 2026 Returns to Tokyo Midtown with Picnics, Koinobori, and Outdoor Fun

Tokyo Midtown (Akasaka, Minato Ward) is hosting "MIDTOWN OPEN THE PARK 2026" from Friday, April 24 to Sunday, May 31, 2026. Building on the success of last year's picnic experience, this year's edition adds new family-friendly content including a children's playground, a koinobori gallery, wellness activities, a limited-time craft beer marché, and more — all set amid the complex's expansive green garden.

The Midtown Garden opens as a picnic space during the fresh green season, allowing visitors to enjoy the outdoors surrounded by lush trees and gentle sunshine.

Hands-Free Picnic Tool Rentals

All the essentials for a picnic can be rented on-site, making it easy to enjoy the garden without any preparation. The tents and picnic sheet designs were supervised by Tomoko Hamada, winner of the Tokyo Midtown Award 2016 Design Competition, creating a creatively-crafted relaxation space.

SUNNY PICNIC — Takeout Food Fair

During the garden open period (April 24 – May 31), the building's shops offer a variety of takeout food and drink options under the "SUNNY PICNIC" banner. Visitors can pick up food from inside and enjoy it al fresco in the garden.

Night Picnic

The garden stays open until 7:00 PM with partial illumination, and LED lanterns are available to rent, creating a serene nighttime atmosphere for those who want to linger after dark.

Open Through Golden Week and Into May

After Golden Week, the garden remains open through the end of May. Visitors can continue enjoying takeout picnics in the fresh greenery, and in late May, CRASHIP PARK (see below) joins the lineup.

MIDPARK Playground — New This Year!

A children's playground sets up in the Courtyard themed around "Create, Destroy, Imagine!" Using oversized building blocks, children can develop creativity through immersive, large-scale play.

Koinobori GALLERY — 10th Anniversary Edition

Now in its 10th year, the Koinobori GALLERY fills the Midtown Garden with approximately 100 original koinobori (carp streamers) created by artists and designers from Japan and around the world. This year's theme is "Wishing for Children's Growth," continuing the traditional Boys' Festival celebration.

Participating designers include graphic designers Takahisa Kamijo and Kazufumi Nagai, as well as actress Michiko Hada, among many others.

A limited-time outdoor marché brings together acclaimed craft breweries in the Midtown Garden's lawn area over the Golden Week holiday. "West Coast Brewing (WCB)" and other popular craft beer makers will be on-site serving a curated selection of beers, alongside food vendors.

CRASHIP PARK

An urban craft event celebrating Japanese craftsmanship returns to Tokyo Midtown for three days. Around 35 producers and sellers from across Japan gather to offer tastings of tea, coffee, sake, wine, and more, alongside artisan workshops, a vintage and craft market, and music live performances.

Theater-Style Workshop Area: A main stage hosts tasting sessions with commentary by producers and professionals, along with hands-on craft workshops by artisans. Advance ticket sales begin in early April.

About Tokyo Midtown

Tokyo Midtown is a mixed-use urban complex in Akasaka, Minato Ward, featuring shops, restaurants, offices, a hotel, parkland, and a museum set among sweeping greenery. The Midtown Garden contains approximately 400 trees — including roughly 140 trees that have been preserved since the site's previous use as a Japan Self-Defense Forces facility — which are carefully maintained through regular pruning to keep them healthy and beautiful.
