nine hours Shinjuku-North Opens in Kita-Shinjuku on June 15, 2026 — Capsule Hotel with University Partnership

The sleep-tech company nine hours, Inc. has opened a new capsule hotel in Kita-Shinjuku — the "nine hours Shinjuku-North" — on June 15, 2026. The property is the brand's first university-affiliated location, developed in partnership with Tokyo Women's Medical University.

University Partnership Space

The 8th floor features a dedicated university partnership space staffed in collaboration with specialists from Tokyo Women's Medical University. Partner departments include:

  • Medical AI Center
  • Institute of Oriental Medicine
  • Department of General Medicine
  • Department of Neurology
  • Department of Sleep Medicine

The space is equipped with body composition analyzers (InBody) and automated blood pressure monitors (Omron), giving guests access to personal health data. Combined with sleep analysis data collected during their stay, the setup is designed to help guests reflect on their physical condition and lifestyle habits. Referrals to specialists or related medical institutions are also available as needed.

Collaborations with Manufacturers (Planned)

The hotel is currently in discussions with manufacturers in the food, health, sports, and well-being sectors. Taking advantage of the Shinjuku area's diverse international and domestic visitor base, the goal is to bring in products and technologies that enhance each guest's stay. Details will be announced as partnerships are finalized.

Sleep Pods with Sleep Analysis

The hotel features nine hours' signature sleep pods — minimally designed capsules that reduce external stimuli for restful sleep even during short stays. Each pod is equipped with an infrared camera, directional microphone, and body movement sensor that collect sleep data non-invasively during the night. The data is then analyzed by nine hours' proprietary software through the "9h sleep checkup" service, which the company has offered since 2021. No wearable devices are required.

Interior Design

nine hours Shinjuku-North occupies floors 3 through 8 of a commercial building on Okubo-dori in Kita-Shinjuku. The building was originally completed in 2017, operated as a different hotel for a period, and has now been renovated and reopened. Interior designer Shizuka Iijima, who was involved in the original fit-out under Nakamura Design Office, oversaw the renovation. The overall layout — entrance on the 1st floor, lockers and guest rooms on floors 3 through 6, showers on the 7th floor, and front desk and lounge on the 8th floor — remains the same. Floors 3 through 7 were restored to their original design, while the 8th floor was fully redesigned around sleep technology, featuring the university partnership space and a versatile lounge.
