Tokyu Stay Shinjuku, the Shinjuku Sanchome hotel operated by Tokyu Resorts & Stay Co., Ltd. (Shibuya, Tokyo; President: Kenichi Yamawaki) under General Manager Takehiro Yoshikawa, will reopen on September 29, 2026 (Tuesday), following a full renovation.
Ahead of the reopening, the hotel begins a pre-opening period on September 18 (Friday). To mark the occasion, it is offering a "Pre-Opening Special Stay Plan" through September 28 (Monday) that lets guests experience the renewed hotel's new take on "living like a local" ahead of the official relaunch.
SANKADO SQUARE — Designed for a Wider Range of Travel Styles
Responding to the rising number of inbound visitors and growing demand from groups and families, Tokyu Stay Shinjuku has renovated the entire building to suit a wider range of travel styles. The renewal reduces the room count from 179 to 120 while expanding the average room size by roughly 1.5 times, to about 25 square meters, and adds new rooms that can sleep up to four guests — creating spaces suited to couples, families, and groups alike.
Creative direction and interior design for the renewal were handled by Nomura Kogei Co., Ltd., led by design director Jun'ichi Saito and designer Kohei Fujinaka, who refreshed the entire property under a single concept, from the overall layout down to the smallest details.

The renewal's concept, "SANKADO SQUARE," reflects the character of Shinjuku Sanchome, an area where diverse history and culture have layered over time. The hotel aims to serve as an open "square" where a variety of people naturally gather and new culture takes shape, offering a stay experience unlike any before.

To mark the renewal, Tokyu Stay Shinjuku is offering a "Pre-Opening Special Stay Plan" that lets guests experience the hotel ahead of its official relaunch. Interior Signage Design: "A Balance Between Deviation and Order"
The renewal extends beyond interior design to every piece of visual information in the building, from the reception desk to the floor signage. The design was handled by Issei Nomura of Tyle, a design studio known for work spanning typography to graphics.
The signage concept, described as "a balance between deviation and order," does not stick to a single style. By combining a wide variety of typefaces, the design creates a harmonious order within what first appears to be free-form chaos — aiming for a layered atmosphere reminiscent of jazz improvisation, where different personalities play off one another and unexpected harmony emerges from the chaos.

Landscaping and Exterior
Tokyu Stay Shinjuku's facade pays tribute to the neighborhood's history as a hub of movie culture, taking design cues from the entrances of classic cinemas and theaters and echoing Shinjuku's retro film-going past.
The planting at the entrance and throughout the building embodies the "SANKADO SQUARE" concept. Golden-striped moso bamboo with distinctive variegated trunks anchors the greenery, mixed boldly with succulents and cacti such as prickly pear and agave. The resulting landscape, where different plants coexist in a one-of-a-kind arrangement, echoes the way Shinjuku Sanchome's diverse cultures overlap and improvise together.
The planting was designed by landscape architect Kei Amano of YardWorks Inc., whose eye for blending traditional refinement with a contemporary sensibility — under the banner "THE ART OF LIFE" — runs throughout the hotel.
Signature Experiences at Tokyu Stay Shinjuku
Beyond simply offering a place to stay, Tokyu Stay Shinjuku positions itself as a hub connecting guests to the neighborhood, and it is rolling out a lineup of experience programs unique to Shinjuku.
1. Patch Workshop "PATCH & PLAY"
A permanent workshop booth in the first-floor lobby lets guests choose original patches inspired by Shinjuku's culture and local memory and attach them to clothing or bags — a way to feel the neighborhood's history while taking home a one-of-a-kind travel keepsake.
The first collaboration features DUG, a jazz café and bar that has been known as "the place to talk about music in Shinjuku" and beloved by countless cultural figures since its founding in 1961. A Shinjuku-exclusive patch based on DUG's iconic logo will be produced and sold, with further limited-edition patch series planned in partnership with other neighborhood establishments, each weaving in a piece of Shinjuku's story.

2. Local Photo Tour With MagicalTrip Co., Ltd.
Tokyu Stay Shinjuku has partnered with local tour operator MagicalTrip to offer an in-depth walking experience through Shinjuku. The tour, currently called "Shinjuku After Dark Photography Tour (tentative name)," begins with a hotel pickup and takes guests through photogenic spots that define Shinjuku, including Kabukicho and shrines connected to the area's history, with a local guide. It is a private tour built around taking photos of guests together against the backdrop of the city — addressing how families and couples often struggle to get everyone in the same photo — with local guides, including a professional photographer, handling the shooting.
The program is designed to let guests experience Shinjuku's charm — the kind that doesn't make it into guidebooks — alongside genuine locals, and limited premium tours are also being planned on an irregular basis.

3. Record Chocolate — Shinjuku's Music Culture in Chocolate Form
To mark the renewal, the hotel is planning an original chocolate shaped like a 7-inch record, developed together with rit. craft chocolate and coffee, a noted Hiroshima chocolate shop the hotel connected with while opening Tokyu Stay Mercure Hiroshima. It is planned for sale at the hotel in the future.
Records displayed in the lounge and guest rooms are one of Tokyu Stay Shinjuku's symbols, and the chocolate's packaging uses an original design inspired by the second-floor common area.
