Karesansui with moss and stones

Karesansui Called "Zen Garden"

Karesansui is a style of Japanese garden that expresses mountains and flowing water using moss and sand without actual water. Its quiet and profound scenery is widely known overseas as "Zen Garden," cherished as a healing landscape that calms the mind. It is a uniquely Japanese garden culture that condenses the beauty of nature and spirituality into a small space.

"Zentei" makes it easy to enjoy karesansui at home. By combining moss and white sand, you can freely design a palm-sized garden while incorporating Japanese-style healing into your daily life.

Visible changes are enjoyable

The Charm of Sunagoke: Small Vitality That "Lives Only on Morning Dew"

Green accents in Zentei feature "Sunagoke" (sand moss). In nature, it has the vitality to live on minimal moisture from morning dew and rain, and is a moss that is resistant to dryness and loves sunlight. Indoors, avoid direct sunlight and excessive watering, simply misting lightly is sufficient. With a single spray of water, the leaves softly open, spreading fresh natural vitality throughout the pot. It's a healing presence that lets you feel the seasons in a small space.

Deep Color with Yohen Glazes: Changing Expression with Each Firing

The shallow bonsai pot uses yohen* glazes: brown-toned sobagusuri and blue-toned namakogusuri. Each firing produces a different expression, creating depth of color and rich texture. The meticulously crafted finish further enhances the world of karesansui.

※What is Yohen?
"Yohen" refers to natural chemical changes that occur in the kiln during ceramic firing. Depending on how the flames hit, temperature, and glaze flow, unique colors and patterns emerge in each piece. Even using the same glaze, no two finishes are identical, and the beauty created by chance is its appeal. That distinctive depth and character give each work individuality and luxury.

Miniature ceramic three-story pagoda and drum bridge, volcanic stone, and koi fish adorn the miniature karesansui world.

01 Three-story pagoda

Sobagusuri is a glaze that suppresses luster and creates a simple, flavorful texture reminiscent of buckwheat seeds. Its subdued, calm color adds understated modern elegance and Japanese charm to the space.

02 Koi fish

Namakogusuri is a glaze with distinctive mottled patterns resembling sea cucumber (namako), with white spots floating on a blue background. The deep blue makes the red and orange of the koi stand out, creating a vivid contrast that lets you enjoy the even more gorgeous atmosphere of a Japanese garden.
