PIASTRE Reopens as Mexican Fine Dining in Kamakura on September 16

MAISON CACAO, the chocolate brand born in Kamakura, is renewing PIASTRE, the restaurant on the third floor of its Kamakura main store, starting Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

The new aim is a fine-dining experience where guests can discover both the depth and the fun of Mexican cuisine.

Rooted in the ingredients and food culture that Mexico has carried for generations, the restaurant layers in wonderful ingredients arriving from across Japan, creating Mexican dishes that only PIASTRE can offer.

The aroma of tortillas on the grill. Salsas made by mixing different chilis and herbs.

Street food you pick up with your hands and enjoy freely.

And mole, built up layer by layer over hours from countless ingredients.

Authentic yet free, and fun. Every dish is designed to feel like a night spent traveling through Mexico.

01. It All Starts With a Single Tortilla

At PIASTRE, the tortillas that anchor every taco are made and grilled in-house, one at a time. The goal isn't just a wrapper — it's a tortilla that's delicious as a dish in its own right. Fresh off the grill, with its own toasty aroma, texture, and corn flavor, it draws out the best in the fish, meat, vegetables, and salsa it's paired with. Tacos change completely depending on the tortilla — and that discovery is where PIASTRE's Mexican cuisine begins.

02. Mexican Flavors, Grown From Japan's Finest Ingredients

Making authentic Mexican food takes ingredients that simply can't be substituted.

Take tomatillo, essential to salsa — PIASTRE uses fresh tomatillo grown in Japan by Kajitani Farm in Hiroshima.

The chilis that define Mexican cuisine are also Mexican varieties cultivated in Japan, and the restaurant even sources rare herbs that add complex aromas to its dishes, chosen through close collaboration between the chefs and growers. Alongside them are seasonal fish, meat, and vegetables from across Japan, led by top-quality fresh fish from Sasue Maeda Fish Store. Staying true to Mexico's food culture and techniques while drawing on the fresh ingredients only available in Japan, two distant places meet on a single plate.

03. Two Courses That Capture the Freedom of Mexican Cuisine

STREET STYLE COURSE

Tacos and street food, beloved on Mexico's street corners. That free, energetic food culture is reimagined here as a PIASTRE course. Some dishes are meant to be picked up and eaten by hand, but each one is built from carefully chosen ingredients and precise technique. "Street food can be this delicious, and this free" — that discovery comes together in a fine-dining experience true to PIASTRE.

TRADITIONAL COURSE

The other course lets guests savor the depth of Mexican cuisine at a slower pace. One of its signature dishes is mole — Mexico's iconic dish, built layer by layer over hours from chilis, spices, nuts, cacao, and more. Sweetness, spice, sourness, bitterness, and toasted aromas all overlap within a single flavor. This course is a chance to engage with traditional dishes and technique, and through them, the Mexican food culture behind them.

04. A Great Dish Deserves a Great Drink

PIASTRE's other star is its bar. The bartender behind the counter crafts original cocktails, one at a time, inspired by the dishes and seasonal ingredients.

The lineup ranges widely, from tequila and mezcal to wine and whisky, for pairings alongside dinner or a drink after the meal. Enjoy the even greater freedom that comes from bringing Mexican food and drink together.

From Kamakura to Mexico

Whether it's eating tacos with your hands, discovering the aroma of a chili for the first time, or slowly savoring the complexity of mole, there's no need to be formal just because it's fine dining.

Mexican food culture is about bringing people together, gathering around the table, and enjoying the time spent eating itself.

Authentic, so it can be more free. Traditional, so it can be more fun.

A journey to Mexico begins on a Kamakura evening, on the top floor of MAISON CACAO's main store. The renewed PIASTRE is ready to welcome you.
