Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo 2027 S/S Moves Into Its Second Half at Shibuya Hikarie, With C JEAN's Tokyo Debut

Numerous notable brands are holding shows and presentations at Shibuya Hikarie's Hikarie Hall, the official venue for Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo 2027 S/S. Japan Fashion Week, which marked its 20th anniversary last September, is now heading into its next 20 years with a range of new initiatives underway. The show period runs Monday, August 31 through Saturday, September 5, and has now moved into its second half.

Highlights From the First Half

On the opening day, yoshiokubo took the stage first, with a giant tent built for the occasion in the form of a "ger," the traditional mobile dwelling of Mongolia. Themed "Natural Born Nomads," the collection built on the previous season's idea of a "runner in the city," using lightweight fabrics that catch the wind and sharp cutting to create everyday wear with an edge.

Seivson presented at Hatoyama Kaikan, a beautiful Taisho-era Western-style mansion, with this season's theme of "Keibou" (聞房), a term for a woman's private space — a bedroom or sitting room. Built around the brand's signature lingerie detailing, the collection took on a more gothic mood than usual, tracing a gradient between adult women and young girls, and also featured a collaboration with Juicy Couture.

WHiTENOOK joined as an official RFWT designer show for the first time; the brand's previous appearance came via a recommendation from the China Fashion Week Organizing Committee as a "China Fashion Week Recommendation Show." This season marks the brand's fourth since launch, themed "FUSION." The show opened with clean pieces that highlighted the beauty of the brand's signature natural materials, gradually deepening in color as the fabrics shifted toward denim.

ENFÖLD, designed by Mizuki Ueda, closed out the opening day. Having joined RFWT for the first time last season, the brand — favored by adult women — once again showed its presence at fashion week. This time, under the theme "WRAPPING STRUCTURE," the collection drew on architectural structure to bring out its own distinctive silhouettes.

Day two opened with the partnership show Global Fashion Collective, a platform dedicated to supporting creative designers, holding its ninth runway show at RFWT. The show produces innovative runway showcases across fashion cities worldwide, and this time featured three brands: SHINO, Nar Rew Ekar, and PERRY JONES.

The next partnership show was BENCH/ Presents Threads of Dreams, a joint runway staged by BENCH/, the Philippines' leading lifestyle and fashion brand. Marking the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Japan, the show brought together three designers — Rhett Eala, Jaggy Glarino, and Joey Samson — for their first-ever presentation in Japan.

support surface presented under the words "ordinary shift — a quiet transition away from the ordinary, moving beyond what's taken for granted," with a particular focus on translating the finest craftsmanship into everyday wear. With 99% of its production done in Japan, the brand's unwavering sense of beauty and sincere, customer-facing approach to creation reflect the strength of Japanese manufacturing.

MITSURU OKAZAKI drew on the keyword "a strange sight," calling to mind the gray-suited "time thieves" from Michael Ende's classic novel Momo and translating that essence into the collection. MEGMIURA WARDROBE, winner of the JFW DIGITAL GRAND PRIX for 2023 S/S, returned to RFWT for the first time since the 2023 A/W season.

Day three opened with EITARO, appearing at RFWT for the second time in its third season since debut. This season's theme, "Datsu" (脱, "shedding"), continues an unbroken story from the previous seasons' "Sanagi" (蛹, "chrysalis") and "Sehanagi" (背花着) collections. KEIKO NISHIYAMA, which had continued to present digital-only collections, held its first-ever physical runway show, expressing through striking graphics a plant's journey as it changes form and is passed from hand to hand across different lands, under the theme "Cultivating Wonder."

pillings, named a 2025 LVMH Prize semifinalist and drawing attention from overseas, presented under the theme "Landscapes2," continuing from the previous season with a focus on the everyday lives of ordinary Japanese people. Rather than a clear, first-person narrative, the collection captured everyday life from multiple angles, depicting through clothing the landscapes that lie between reality, memory, and fantasy.

The first half of the show period closed with yushokobayashi. Winner of the TOKYO FASHION AWARD 2026, the brand presented its debut collection this past March, and this time returned with its second collection, themed "mermaid's tears."
