Hoshino Resorts RISONARE Atami will hold the Kankan Beer Garden from June 1 to August 31, 2026. The event takes place at Sorano Beach Books & Cafe on the hotel's top floor, where the space is decorated with can-inspired motifs and stocked with 100 types of canned goods. This year's edition introduces a new original plate dish and expands the craft beer lineup to 20 varieties, including a RISONARE Atami exclusive.
Background
Shizuoka Prefecture has a long history of sake brewing, supported by its abundant water resources and an environment well-suited to fermentation. That heritage has helped craft beer culture take root in recent years — the prefecture now boasts more than 30 breweries, one of the highest concentrations in Japan. Shizuoka is also a major center for canned food production; it accounts for 98% of Japan's tuna can output, ranking first in the country. The Kankan Beer Garden, held annually since 2019, was created to let guests enjoy both of these local traditions against the backdrop of Atami's scenic views. This year the event expands its offerings around the theme of "encounters," helping guests discover new flavor pairings.
Highlights of the Kankan Beer Garden
1. A Space Filled with 100 Canned Goods — New This Year

Sorano Beach Books & Cafe, which overlooks Sagami Bay and the Atami cityscape, has been redesigned with circular can-shaped shelving and fresh, bright décor. The shelves are lined with 100 types of canned goods — primarily from Shizuoka — ranging from tuna and other seafood varieties to more adventurous options like oden. Guests can browse freely and pick their favorites in the airy, open setting.
2. Original Plates That Reveal New Sides of Canned Food — New This Year

A new original plate lets guests mix and match ingredients to find their own favorite combination. Guests start by choosing a base from five canned options — tuna, sakura shrimp, whitebait, and others — then add toppings from a selection of citrus, herbs, and similar ingredients, finishing with one of three sauces including a wasabi-flavored mayonnaise. The pairing possibilities highlight unexpected sides of everyday canned goods.
3. 20 Craft Canned Beers, Including a RISONARE Atami Original — Expanded Lineup

The beer selection features 20 distinct craft canned beers from breweries throughout Shizuoka Prefecture, including a citrus-forward lager developed in collaboration with FUJIYAMA HUNTER'S BEER in Fujinomiya City. With 100 canned foods and 20 beers, there are 2,000 possible pairings to explore.
