Saburoubei (さぶろうべい), a cherished soul food restaurant chain in Ishikawa Prefecture, is launching an online-exclusive gift set pairing its signature all-purpose sauce ("万能たれ") with its popular torikawa (braised chicken skin). The set is designed for summer greetings and mid-year gifting (ochugen), allowing customers to enjoy Saburoubei's flavors at home.
75 Years of Family-Table Flavors, Now Available to Gift
The restaurant's signature sauce traces back to the founder, Saburouhei, who crafted it when the restaurant first opened in 1950. Soy sauce-based and layered with deep umami, the recipe has been passed down unchanged ever since.
The "all-purpose sauce" in this set is that same secret sauce, diluted to half strength for easier home use. It pairs effortlessly with a wide range of dishes — the restaurant's signature torinabe (chicken and napa cabbage hot pot), grilled meats, stir-fries, cold tofu, and salads. Just drizzle, marinate, or toss with it to bring Saburoubei's taste to the home table.
The torikawa is one of Saburoubei's most popular menu items, drawing dedicated regulars who visit the restaurant specifically for it. Each piece is hand-prepped and slow-simmered until soft and meltingly tender. It works equally well as a snack or a side dish with rice.
