Chinese Dining 黄鶴 (2F, East Wing) at Sapporo Grand Hotel is serving two special gyoza dishes that won gold at the Sapporo chapter of the 2026 "Local Gyoza Contest" (ご当地ギョウザコンテスト), organized by the Japan Chinese Cuisine Association. The limited-time menu runs from June 16 (Tuesday) through July 15 (Wednesday), 2026.
The contest, held across Japan, celebrates the combination of classic Chinese cuisine and locally sourced ingredients, connecting food enthusiasts and restaurants throughout the country. Two chefs from 黄鶴 entered the Sapporo chapter and both took home gold, earning the right to put their winning creations on the menu.
Gold Award Dish 1: Lamb and Gyojya Ninniku Mala Soup Curry Gyoza in a Clay Pot
By Masashi Abe (Sapporo chapter gold award)
This original gyoza fuses Hokkaido's beloved soup curry with the flavors of Chinese cuisine. The water-cooked dumplings are filled with lamb and 行者にんにく (gyojya ninniku) — a pungent wild garlic prized in Hokkaido — and served in a mala-spiced soup curry broth that builds a deep, appetite-whetting flavor. Colorful fried vegetables complete the presentation, evoking the vibrant look of a bowl of soup curry.
Price: ¥1,800 (tax and service charge included) for 5 pieces — limited to 10 servings per day

Gold Award Dish 2: Corn Gyoza
By Soma Otaka (Sapporo chapter gold award)
This gyoza puts the natural sweetness of Hokkaido-grown corn front and center, paired with the concentrated umami of scallops and a richness from butter, all crafted using Chinese culinary techniques. The shape of each dumpling is designed to resemble a corn cob — a charming touch that makes the dish as fun to look at as it is to eat.

Price: ¥1,000 (tax and service charge included) for 3 pieces — limited to 10 servings per day
