About Sapporo Grand Hotel

Sapporo Grand Hotel opened in 1934 at the proposal of the late Prince Chichibu, serving as a reception room for political and business leaders and a social gathering place for citizens. As Hokkaido's first full-scale Western-style hotel, it has long served as a gateway to Western culture. In May 1951 it became Hokkaido's first government-registered international tourist hotel, and in June 1978 it introduced Japan's first female bellperson, continuing ever since as a pioneer of its era.
