Sawai Coffee's Water-Brewed Iced Drip Coffee Returns for Summer 2026

As the summer heat continues, do you find yourself boiling water just to make a cup of iced coffee?

Skipping the kettle for a cold cup

Cold, refreshing iced coffee is a summer favorite. Making it with a standard drip bag usually means brewing with hot water first and then cooling it down with ice. In the height of summer, though, boiling water and rushing to cool a hot brew can feel like an extra chore.

Sawai Coffee's answer is Water-Brewed Iced Drip Coffee, a drip bag brewed with water instead of hot water.

Simply set the drip bag on a cup and slowly pour water over it to brew a single cup of iced coffee. With no kettle required, it keeps the convenience of a drip bag while offering a summer-only option.

Water-Brewed Iced Drip Coffee

One cup at a time, dripped rather than steeped

Cold brew coffee is usually made by soaking a coffee bag in water for several hours.

Water-Brewed Iced Drip Coffee works differently: rather than soaking the bag for hours, it's set on a cup just like a regular drip bag and brewed by pouring water over it.

There's no need for special equipment or a large pitcher, and a single cup can be made whenever you want one.

The format is designed to fit easily into moments when just one cup of iced coffee is needed, whether during a coffee break at home or a rest at the office.

Drawing out aroma and richness from water, which extracts less easily than hot water

The compounds responsible for coffee's aroma and flavor are typically extracted quickly using hot water.

That means simply pouring water over a standard drip bag isn't enough to draw out the aroma and richness needed for iced coffee.

Brewing coffee

Sawai Coffee uses a dark-roast regular coffee and adjusted the recipe so the flavor doesn't fall flat when brewed with water. The aim was a clean, refreshing cold-brew character balanced with rich aroma and deep body.

Beyond the convenience of skipping hot water, the goal was a flavor that still meets the standard of a coffee specialty shop.

Enjoy!

How to brew

  1. Add ice to a glass or cup and set the drip bag in place.
  2. Pour water over the bag slowly, in two or three additions.
  3. Once brewing is finished, remove the drip bag and stir well.

For details on the amount of water and pouring method, check the product packaging. Depending on the shape of the glass or cup, the drip bag may not always fit securely in place.

More freedom, more ease for summer iced coffee

This product comes as a bulk pack of 50 drip bags, each containing 8g of coffee.

The quantity suits daily drinkers, families, and stocking up at the office or when working from home.

With no special brewing equipment needed and each cup dripped individually with water, it can fit any mood or daily rhythm.

This summer, skip the kettle and brew straight from water. Through Water-Brewed Iced Drip Coffee, Sawai Coffee is rethinking how iced coffee gets made and proposing a new way to enjoy coffee in summer.

Developer comment

"We wanted people to be able to enjoy proper iced coffee as easily as possible, even in summer, so we set out to develop a drip bag that could be brewed by pouring water over it.

Coffee's aroma and richness come out very differently with hot water and with water. A drip bag built the same way as a standard one can't draw out enough flavor with water alone.

So we revisited everything — bean selection, blend, roasting method, grind size, and even the drip bag material — going through repeated trial and testing along the way.

It's a product that lets you brew a single cup easily without boiling water on a hot day. We hope people will enjoy it as a new option for summer coffee."
