Shimonoseki Shunpanro Nihonbashi Takashimaya Store (下関春帆楼日本橋髙島屋店), located inside Nihonbashi Takashimaya S.C. in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, celebrates its 40th anniversary in October 2026. The store opened in 1986 as the first Tokyo branch of Shunpanro, a long-established restaurant in Shimonoseki and the first in Japan officially licensed to serve fugu (pufferfish).

To thank its customers for their long-standing patronage, the store is holding a series of 40th anniversary events in stages from September through Saturday, October 31, 2026. The lineup includes an eat-in-only tasting set that lets diners enjoy traditional thin-sliced fugu sashimi (usuzukuri), and a takeout coupon for friends of the store's official LINE account.

About Shunpanro Honten in Shimonoseki

Shunpanro was named by Ito Hirobumi, Japan's first Prime Minister, and in 1888 became the first restaurant in Japan officially licensed to serve fugu. It later had the honor of hosting Emperor and Empress Showa in 1958 and 1963, and continues to be loved by many guests as Shimonoseki's guest house for distinguished visitors.

The flagship Honten stands on a hill overlooking the Kanmon Strait, a site central to the Genpei War and the Meiji Restoration, where diners can enjoy its signature fugu dishes together with the sweeping strait views that have watched over this history.
