Tototei, an auberge in Nagasaki built inside a 118-year-old Japanese house, is bringing back its special stay plan tied to Nagasaki Kunchi. For three days during this year's festival, guests can book a one-night, two-meal plan that includes a reserved box-seat ticket (S-seat or A-seat) for the dance offerings at Suwa Shrine. The plan is being held again this year after last year's edition, in response to guests' requests.
This year's dance towns (odori-cho) are Imakago-machi, Aburaya-machi, Motofuna-machi, Uwamachi, Kajiya-machi, and Chikugo-machi. Nagasaki Kunchi's signature offerings—Kokkodesho, the Dragon Dance, a river-boat float (Kawabune), and a treasure-ship float (Takarabune)—will be performed.

Nagasaki Kunchi is the city's grand autumn festival, held every year since 1634. Designated an Important Intangible Cultural Property, it draws large crowds from Japan and abroad every autumn. The box seats overlooking the dance offerings at Suwa Shrine are especially hard to come by—even for local residents, they tend to sell out shortly after tickets go on sale.
Of the box seats reserved for this plan, only three rooms on the first day are A-seats, with all the rest S-seats, so guests get an excellent view of the dance offerings up close. Cheers of "Motteko-i!" and "Yoiya!" fill the venue, and after each offering, hand towels are tossed toward the box seats—part of the fun of watching from these seats. Guests can also enjoy an autumn Italian dinner course built around local Nagasaki ingredients, along with breakfast, at the on-site restaurant HAJIME, for a fuller taste of Nagasaki.

Tototei is an auberge with only three guest rooms, open to just three parties a day. The rooms are the Main House (Omoya), once the banquet hall of the former Chinese restaurant Tototei; the Annex (Hanare), formerly a separate building; and the Storehouse (Kura), once used to store furniture and tools. Each room blends the character of the original building with modern interiors, giving every space its own mix of old and new design.
