Popular Monjayaki Restaurant "Tsukishima Monja Tamatoya" Opens Second Fukuoka Location in Kokura on July 17

KISSUI GROUP Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Tsukishima, Tokyo; Representative Director: Fumitoshi Kano) will open "Tsukishima Monja Tamatoya Kokura" at 5:00 PM on Friday, July 17, 2026, on Kokura Chuo Shopping Street in Kokura, Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture.

"Tsukishima Monja Tamatoya" has its main store in Tsukishima, Tokyo, the birthplace of monjayaki, and is a popular restaurant known for long lines at its Tokyo Station and Tenjin One Fukuoka Building locations as well.

Following the recent opening of "Tamatoya Tenjin," the brand's first location in Kyushu, this new restaurant marks its second in Fukuoka Prefecture, opening in the heart of Kokura Chuo Shopping Street in Kitakyushu City.

The interior takes its design cues from "Uomachi Ginten-gai," known as Japan's first public-road shopping arcade, with steel arcade-style framework in Tamatoya's signature colors. A giant lantern modeled on the "Tobata Gion Oyamagasa" float lantern, a symbol of one of Kitakyushu's leading festivals, makes a striking impression as it spans from the entrance to the double-height space on the second floor.

The restaurant blends Tokyo's monjayaki culture with the historic streetscape and festival traditions of Kokura and Kitakyushu, creating a space where guests can enjoy not only the food but the atmosphere itself.

The menu makes generous use of fresh seafood sourced from the Toyosu Market seafood wholesaler that has been part of the owner's family business since its founding in 1871. A standout is the homemade broth, blended in-house from seafood, chicken bones, and aromatic vegetables, which lets guests enjoy monjayaki that draws out the full flavor of its ingredients.

The signature dish, "Mochi Monja with Mentaiko," is a colorful specialty topped with a whole, generously sized piece of mentaiko sent directly from the founder's family seafood wholesale business at Toyosu Market. The rich flavor of the mentaiko combined with the umami of the homemade broth makes it the restaurant's most popular menu item.

All monjayaki dishes are cooked to completion on the griddle in front of guests by professional chefs, so even first-time visitors can enjoy them with ease.

The menu also includes seasonal seafood and delicacies handpicked at Toyosu Market, grilled fish carefully prepared in the kitchen, and other teppan dishes cooked in front of guests.
