Popular Fukuoka Izakaya Brand "Ikkon" Opens Its First Kurume Location

The "Ikkon" izakaya brand, which has built a strong reputation in Fukuoka's Imaizumi dining scene, is making its first foray into Kurume. Kurume Ikkon is scheduled to open on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 30-2 Higashimachi, Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture — a stylishly renovated two-story townhouse situated along the Ikemachi River, just a 5-minute walk from Nishitetsu Kurume Station's west exit.

The new restaurant carries on the "correct izakaya" concept that has defined the Ikkon brand in Imaizumi, striking a balance between everyday comfort and a genuine commitment to ingredients, atmosphere, and hospitality. At Kurume Ikkon, the menu centers on fresh wild-caught fish procured each morning through the restaurant's own bidding at Kurume Market, highlighting the natural flavors of seasonal seafood. A monthly-changing clay pot rice made with premium rice selected by a certified rice meister and seasonal ingredients is another highlight, offering a different taste with each visit. Guests can also select fresh fish and seasonal vegetables firsthand through a "neta mise" (ingredient showcase) presentation before cooking, adding a live and engaging element to the dining experience.

The menu is complemented by an extensive selection of Kyushu local sake and shochu, making the restaurant a well-rounded destination for both food and drink lovers.

The venue itself is a renovated single-family townhouse along the picturesque Ikemachi River, where the yaezakura (double-petal cherry blossom) trees create a scenic view. The interior is divided into 12 counter seats, 8 table seats on the first floor, and 34 seats across six private rooms on the second floor, for a total of 54 seats. The private rooms can be connected to host banquets for up to 30 guests, making it suitable for a range of occasions — from intimate meals and business entertainment to large gatherings and parties. Seasonal course menus featuring dishes from all four seasons are also available.

Three Highlights of Kurume Ikkon

1. Fresh Wild-Caught Fish from Kurume Market

Every morning, the restaurant's own staff participate in bidding at Kurume Market and handpick the finest seasonal fish. The kitchen uses these ingredients to prepare dishes that draw out the natural flavors of each catch, aiming to bring a small moment of delight to every table.

2. Monthly-Changing Clay Pot Rice

Premium rice selected by a certified rice meister is combined with seasonal ingredients and cooked in a clay pot. The recipe changes monthly, making it one of the signature dishes that changes its character with the seasons.

3. "Neta Mise" Ingredient Showcase Experience

Fresh fish and seasonal vegetables purchased that day are presented to guests before cooking, allowing them to see and choose their ingredients firsthand. The dining experience begins even before the food arrives, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere.
