Takino's Colorful Spring: The Flower Relay

Shirane Aoi — The Queen of Mountain Wildflowers

Shirane Aoi and Spring Wildflower Festival

The "Shirane Aoi and Spring Wildflower Festival" has been running since May 9. Just a short distance from central Sapporo, the Takino Forest Zone's western area — the Natural History Garden — is alive with Glaucidium palmatum (Shirane Aoi), which produces around 1,500 blooms in the area at this time of year, alongside other mountain wildflowers such as Hitorisize (Chloranthus japonicus) and Enreiso (Trillium smallii), drawing visitors who come to admire them and watch birds.

In 2026, an early snowmelt contributed to peak bloom arriving on May 9, with approximately 1,900 flowers and buds confirmed at that point — the highest count recorded since the park opened. Peak bloom is expected to continue until around May 17.

Period May 9 (Sat) – May 17 (Sun)
