Provence's Premium Rosé Whispering Angel Marks Its 20th Anniversary With a Limited-Edition Bottle

Château d'Esclans, the Provence winery handled in Japan by Moët Hennessy Japan, is marking the 20th anniversary of its premium rosé brand Whispering Angel with the release of a limited-edition anniversary bottle. The bottle is available at select major retailers nationwide and at participating restaurants.

Since its debut in 2006, Whispering Angel has pursued a vision of elevating rosé into the world's finest wine category. Through hotels, restaurants, and gourmet and lifestyle scenes around the world, it has helped turn rosé from a "wine for summer" into a premium wine enjoyed with meals and social occasions all year round, driving a global "rosé renaissance."

Marking its 20th year, Whispering Angel is proposing a new lifestyle in Japan: premium rosé to enjoy all year round. From aperitifs to afternoon tea, fine dining, dinner, and celebrations with loved ones, the brand aims to accompany a wide range of occasions while introducing new pairings with Japan's rich food culture.

The Sun and Radiance of Southern France, in a Glass

In a glass of pale, beautiful rosé lies the Provençal sunlight, the Mediterranean breeze, and the spirit of joie de vivre — the art of savoring life to the fullest. Through a single glass of rosé, Whispering Angel brings the lifestyle of southern France to Japan, aiming to further the development of rosé culture in the country.

Twenty Years That Changed the World's Rosé Culture

In 2006, founder Sacha Lichine set out on a new challenge at Château d'Esclans with the vision of elevating Provence rosé into the world's finest wine category. His goal was not only to craft excellent rosé, but to turn it into a symbol of a lifestyle built around fine dining and social occasions. That challenge has since spread around the world, and the brand now stands as one of the world's leading premium rosé brands, sold in more than 100 countries.

Sacha Lichine, Founder:
"Twenty years ago, our goal was not only to make an excellent rosé wine, but to share the value of Provence rosé with the world and spread its appeal as a new lifestyle. We are delighted that Whispering Angel is loved around the world, and that it is marking its 20th anniversary in Japan as well."

Estelle Mathias, Winemaker:
"Whispering Angel pursues consistent quality and elegance every year, while also expressing the character of that year's Provence. Its fresh fruit flavor, beautiful minerality, and delicate balance have earned it recognition around the world as a premium rosé to enjoy with food. I hope many people will enjoy Whispering Angel, which pairs wonderfully with Japan's rich seasons and delicate food culture."

About Whispering Angel

Born in 2006 at Château d'Esclans in Provence, France, Whispering Angel is a premium rosé brand that has led the world's rosé market under founder Sacha Lichine's vision of elevating rosé into the world's finest wine category. Today it is sold in more than 100 countries and enjoyed at hotels, restaurants, beach clubs, and gourmet and lifestyle scenes around the world. Its fresh, elegant style, born of Provence's natural surroundings and craftsmanship, has earned it recognition as a new global standard for rosé wine.

About Château d'Esclans

Château d'Esclans, whose Provence rosé wines rank among the world's finest, is based at a beautiful château built in the mid-19th century, in the Esclans valley of La Motte-en-Provence, in the Var department of Provence, about 40 km north of the coast of Saint-Tropez. Its history dates back before the 12th century, and its underground cellar is the oldest surviving structure in the area. Since Sacha Lichine and his skilled winemaking team took over the estate in 2006, it has drawn attention from wine critics and journalists as an "innovative winery that raised the quality of rosé wine," building a strong reputation as a rosé producer not only in France but also in the United States. In 2025, four of its wines received medals at the Global Rosé Masters competition.

The estate spans 427 hectares of rocky, limestone-rich hillside, of which 210 hectares of vineyards supply the fruit for its wines. To take advantage of cooler temperatures, grapes are hand-harvested at night and in the early morning, then handled carefully before pressing to avoid extracting unwanted color and tannins; after destemming, they are sorted using both optical sorting equipment and by hand. Pressing takes place in a temperature-controlled environment of 7 to 8°C using a chilled circulation system to preserve freshness, under a blanket of nitrogen gas to prevent oxidation. The juice, separated into three tiers by pressing intensity including free-run juice, is fermented and aged in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks as well as in 600-liter French oak demi-muids fitted with the estate's own temperature-control system. Wines are separated by grape variety, vine age, growing conditions, and whether they were aged in stainless steel or oak, then blended as needed to create wines with consistent quality and character.
