WOODコレクション (モクコレ) 2026 Exhibition Brings Together 320 Businesses from 39 Prefectures to Celebrate Domestic Timber

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will host "WOODコレクション (モクコレ) 2026," an exhibition and business meeting event aimed at promoting the use of domestic timber, over two days on February 12 (Thu) and 13 (Fri), 2026, at Tokyo Big Sight.

For its landmark 10th edition, the event adopts the theme "The Future of Industry, Society, and Lifestyle Shaped by Domestic Timber" and will feature the largest scale to date, with approximately 320 businesses from 39 prefectures exhibiting. In addition to a wide range of categories including architecture, building materials, furniture, and daily goods, this year's event will strongly highlight integration with cutting-edge fields such as "space" and "DX (Digital Transformation)."

Other highlights include a talk session by renowned architect Kengo Kuma to commemorate the 5th anniversary of MOCTION, a platform for domestic timber utilization, presenting many insights into the future relationship between Japan's forests and society over two eventful days.

Highlight 1: Theme Exhibitions – Experience the Present and Future of Domestic Timber

Special areas in the Atrium and Hall will present the possibilities of domestic timber from multiple perspectives through data visualization, cutting-edge technology, and experiences that stimulate the five senses.

Atrium

• Exploring Japan's Forests (Current State of Japan's Forestry and Forests)

This exhibition uses the latest data to clearly explain the current state and challenges facing Japan's forestry and forests. Understanding the "reality of our mountains today" forms the starting point for discussions about the future.

• The Story Beginning with a Single Log

Visualizing the process of how a single log nurtured in the forest is processed into lumber and transformed into products that reach our daily lives, this exhibition conveys the story of the timber cycle.

• Forefront of Forestry DX

Experience the transformation of the industry through smart forestry, including forest information analysis using drones and automatic log recognition using AI. This exhibition presents the future of forestry solved through technology.

• WOODEX (Wood Cross)

Under the theme "New Future Created by Timber," this exhibition presents the forefront of timber crossing over with different fields such as healthcare, sports, and lifestyle, proposing new areas for timber utilization.

Hall

• Five-Senses Experience Plaza: "Creation, Movement, and Stillness"

Creation Plaza: Experience making toys and accessories using offcuts and branches/leaves, utilizing laser processing (free of charge).

Movement Plaza: Move your body on wooden playground equipment and health equipment, feeling the warmth and cushioning of wood.

Stillness Plaza: Relax your mind and body in the "foot bath zone" using cypress sawdust and surrounded by wood aromatherapy.

• Domestic Timber × Space: "Domestic Timber Challenges Space"

Timber, which has supported civilization on Earth, is now taking on a new role as a "space material." Through the demonstration of the wooden satellite "LignoSat," this exhibition rediscovers characteristics unique to wood that differ from metals and plastics, introducing the grand vision of contributing to the global environment and a circular society in space.

Highlight 2: Notable Exhibitors Embodying the Concept

We introduce businesses with unique technologies and perspectives that specifically symbolize this event's theme: "The Future of Industry, Society, and Lifestyle Shaped by Domestic Timber."

Industry's Future: Visualization of Trust Through DX

FORESTWORKER Co., Ltd. (Hiroshima Prefecture)

Point: Digitally realizes the theme exhibition "The Story Beginning with a Single Log." Their system (HIBARINGs) assigns an ID to each tree, allowing consumers to check details such as "the condition of the stump" and "why it was cut," symbolizing the future of timber distribution in a modern era demanding information transparency.

Society's Future: Forest Regeneration and Recovery Through Disaster-Damaged Timber Use

Iwate Prefecture Forestry Promotion Division (Iwate Prefecture)

Point: Proposes utilization of "disaster-damaged timber" from the largest wildfire since the Heisei era that occurred in 2025. Test research by the prefecture and universities has proven that disaster-damaged timber has strength comparable to healthy timber, and the exhibition will showcase this timber, introducing an approach to a resilient society where using timber directly connects to recovery and forest regeneration.

Lifestyle's Future: "Japan's First" Technology × "Tokyo's Traditional Craft" × "Tama-Produced Timber"

Tomita Dyeing and Weaving Arts Co., Ltd. (Tokyo)

Point: Applying hand-dyeing techniques for kimono that have continued since the Edo period, announcing a new technology that dyes traditional Japanese patterns onto timber for the first time in Japan. Products such as art walls using Tama-produced timber propose new values for enriching sensibilities, where traditional crafts and regional resources merge.

Lifestyle's Future: Light-Transmitting "Wood" Creating Fantastical Spaces

Kanesada Yokoo Wood Works Co., Ltd. (Oita Prefecture)

Point: Exhibiting a hybrid laminated panel "Kōsai-sugi" that fuses cedar and acrylic, allowing light transmission while being timber. Combining traditional wood warmth with innovative technology, this panel brings a brightness like "sunlight filtering through trees" to interior spaces, proposing unprecedented future architectural spaces.

Highlight 3: World-Renowned Architect Kengo Kuma's Talk Session Commemorating MOCTION's 5th Anniversary

As one of the exhibition's major pillars, a talk session commemorating the 5th anniversary of the opening of "MOCTION," a hub for promoting domestic timber utilization, will be held.

As a notable guest speaking about "The Future of Cities Created by Timber," world-renowned architect and timber architecture pioneer Kengo Kuma will appear. He will discuss his vision and cutting-edge insights on how to return Japan's abundant forest resources to modern urban design and build a sustainable society.

For this exhibition marking its milestone 10th edition, the architectural master's advocacy for "the possibilities of wood" will serve as an important milestone indicating the future direction of Japan's industry, society, and lifestyle.

This Year's Theme: "The Future of Industry, Society, and Lifestyle Shaped by Domestic Timber"

This is Japan's largest timber exhibition connecting cities and forests and promoting new possibilities for domestic timber. Since its first opening in 2016, through years of cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent online hosting, this marks the 10th edition. With exhibitors from all 39 prefectures gathering in one place, it is held as a "nationwide timber festival" introducing applications of wood in architecture, urban development, and daily life.

The venue targets diverse visitor demographics including architects, designers, construction companies, and government officials, as well as general consumers interested in timber education and timber-rich lifestyles, with exhibitions showcasing cutting-edge timber utilization trends, business matching, and lifestyle proposals.

Additionally, as a hybrid exhibition combining physical and online formats, it reaches audiences unable to attend in person. It contributes to maximizing opportunities for participant problem-solving and business negotiations while connecting with social themes such as sustainability and decarbonization, serving as a platform for co-creating a sustainable future for cities and forests.

At WOODコレクション, we aim to provide a "place to encounter ideas that shape the future" where visitors can seize this opportunity to gain hints on improving industry, society, and lifestyle by utilizing domestic timber. We look forward to welcoming many visitors.
