About CAMP AKAIKE

Set within the Aokigahara Forest (Sea of Trees), CAMP AKAIKE caters to a wide range of campers, from groups and families to solo visitors. The campground features drive-in "Auto Sites" where cars can be brought directly onto the pitch, "Free Sites" where guests can freely pitch tents and tarps and stay for up to 32 hours, and "Free Site Bike" spots ideal for solo campers arriving by motorcycle or bicycle. A solid selection of rental gear — including tents, tarps, sleeping bags, and wood-burning stoves — is available on-site, making the campground accessible to first-time campers as well. An indoor gymnasium (recreation room) is also available free of charge as a rainy-day retreat.

A Campground with Something to Offer Every Season

Because CAMP AKAIKE sits in the forest, visitors from April through May can enjoy camping amid beautiful fresh greenery. Golden Week falls right in the new-green season, making it an ideal time to relax in the woods and feel the pleasant early-summer breeze.

At higher elevation, temperatures stay cooler than in urban areas, so summer camping remains comfortable. Water sports on Lake Shoji — canoeing, SUP, and fishing — reach their peak during summer, and combining a camping stay with time on the lake makes for a full day out.

In autumn, the trees begin to turn, offering a stunning forest palette that is unique to wooded camping. CAMP AKAIKE holds its own across all three seasons.

The Rich Natural Environment Around Mt. Fuji

Close to CAMP AKAIKE lies Lake Shoji, one of the Fuji Five Lakes, where activities such as canoeing, SUP, and fishing can be enjoyed with Mt. Fuji as a backdrop. Within the campground grounds there is also a mysterious pond called "Akaike" (Red Lake), said to be the sixth lake of the Fuji Five Lakes. Under normal conditions it looks like a hollow in the ground, but it fills with water and becomes a true pond once every several years, typically after heavy rainfall — a rare natural spectacle.

CAMP AKAIKE makes a great base for taking in the full natural richness of the Mt. Fuji area.
