Marking the 270th anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's birth, this year's concert centers on Mozart's best-loved works, with a two-part orchestra concert during the day and evening that lets guests choose the format that suits their generation. Alongside the concert, a special Christmas buffet brings in dishes and sweets inspired by Austria, Mozart's homeland, so guests can enjoy his world through both music and food.
From a Child's First Orchestra to Full Classical Immersion — A Two-Part Concert for Every Generation
Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo has held the "Mejiro Woods Art Festival," an event that deepens family bonds through the arts, every year since 2022. This year's Christmas concert marks Mozart's 270th birth anniversary with a two-part program held during the day and evening, letting guests choose the format that best suits their generation and taste.
The day program, "My First Orchestra," is built around the theme of a musical toy box and is recommended for children from preschool age through the early elementary grades.
Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride" sets a festive Christmas mood, while "Bugler's Holiday" and "Toy Symphony" introduce the instruments of the orchestra. Children can also try a conductor experience set to Bizet's "Carmen" Prelude, making it an approachable first encounter with classical music.
The program also features a run of glittering favorites, including Mozart's best-known work, "Eine kleine Nachtmusik," along with "Der Vogelfänger bin ich ja" and the "Queen of the Night Aria" from the opera The Magic Flute. After the concert, a violin instrument experience will also be held in the lobby.
The evening program, "Orchestra and Mozart," centers on Mozart's 270th birth anniversary and offers a chance to fully savor the appeal of classical music.
Alongside highlights from the opera The Magic Flute, the program includes "Morning Mood" and "In the Hall of the Mountain King" from Grieg's Peer Gynt, and "Waltz of the Flowers" from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, presenting approachable pieces for longtime classical fans and first-time orchestra listeners alike.
In both parts, live piano and small-ensemble performances will also play during the meal, not just during the concert itself. With welcome music starting from the moment the doors open, guests are wrapped in music from the instant they step into the venue, for a uniquely Christmas experience.
All guests will also receive an original guidebook with easy-to-understand explanations of the orchestra and Mozart.
Mozart's Homeland on the Plate — A Christmas Buffet You Can "Taste" the World of Music
For the meal, a Western-style buffet featuring a one-day-only Christmas special menu will be served.
Dishes befitting a special Christmas day fill the buffet, including Japanese black beef sirloin steak with red wine sauce, Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo's signature double consommé topped with truffle, pan-seared monkfish with monkfish liver (ankimo), and a bouillabaisse of sakuramasu (cherry salmon) and seafood.
The lineup also includes dishes for children, such as domestic beef hamburger steak with mushroom demi-glace sauce and a fluffy omelet rice made with Daisen chicken and fertile eggs, so each family can enjoy the buffet according to their own tastes.
This year's buffet also features an expanded lineup of dishes inspired by Mozart, including Schnitzel and Leberknödel (liver dumplings), two dishes representative of Mozart's homeland of Austria, along with desserts such as Sachertorte and Apple Strudel, both originating in Vienna.
The buffet also offers festive sweets to heighten the Christmas mood, including Mont Blanc finished to order in front of guests and a large Christmas shortcake.
For drinks, in addition to champagne, wine, beer, and cocktails, guests can also try a seasonal cocktail called Weiss Schokolade, made with the white chocolate liqueur "Mozart."
