KIMONOMACHI, the Kyoto-based kimono brand from Kyoto Kimono Machi Co., Ltd., is holding a five-day in-store sale called the Kimono Treasure Hunt Market at its head office annex in Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto, from Tuesday, July 14 to Saturday, July 18, 2026. The brand usually sells online, so this is a rare chance to see, try on, and buy its items in person. This time the sale runs for its longest-ever five days, timed to the opening days of Gion Matsuri. Shoppers who make a purchase receive a dressing-service ticket for bring-your-own yukata, usable at sister beauty salon Yumeyakata Beauty, on top of a sale offering 10% off all 2026 new-arrival yukata, venue-only panel displays, and a recycled-kimono and clearance sale. It's a chance to pick up a favorite outfit for summer festivals and fireworks displays at a good price, then head out dressed by a professional.

Kimono Treasure Hunt Market event

About the Kimono Treasure Hunt Market

The Kimono Treasure Hunt Market is a special sale of kimono goods held by Hosai, the company behind Kyoto Kimono Machi. Since the items sold through the "Kimono Machi" online store are normally kept in an outside warehouse, shoppers rarely get to see them in person before buying. During the event, customers can pick up and try on the actual items, then buy them on the spot.

Staff working the event are the same team that runs Kyoto Kimono Machi and Yumeyakata day to day, and the brand sees the sale as a valuable chance to hear directly from customers. Alongside new items from the original Kyoto Kimono Machi line, the sale also features rare B-grade and discontinued original designs, plus recycled kimono returned from rental, giving shoppers a true treasure-hunt experience whether they're new to kimono or seasoned collectors.

First-Time Kimono Shoppers Welcome

Shoppers unsure of their size or how to match a yukata with an obi and accessories are welcome. Visitors can try on yukata for size on-site, and staff experienced with kimono offer guidance on coordinating obi and small accessories. Buyers also receive a QR code linking to dressing recipes and videos so they can dress with confidence after the event. No reservation is needed, making it an easy, casual event to drop into.

  • Shopping perk: Customers who spend ¥5,000 or more can try a gacha-gacha capsule machine for a chance to win lace tabi socks or hair accessories.
  • Dressing recipe handouts: About 20 types of printed guides covering obi knots and how to tie an obi-age and obi-jime.
  • Kimono dry-cleaning drop-off (drop-off only at this event): A handy option for seasonal kimono care.

Plus Sizes and Functional Summer Items Also Available

Plus-size and summer items

KIMONOMACHI's signature large sizes (up to 4L for women, 5L for men) are available for try-on and purchase regardless of body type. The sale also carries quick-drying "coolpass" nagajuban undergarments, ro-weave slips with a sewn-in collar, and sha-kenjo Nagoya obi — inner layers and small accessories designed to keep hitoe and summer kimono cool and elegant.

Venue-Only Sneak Peek: Behind the Scenes of the New Cotton Yukata "Summer-Inspired Pattern"

Recycled Kimono and B-Grade Clearance Sale

Recycled kimono and clearance sale

Many items on sale aren't available online. The sale includes its regular lineup of recycled kimono along with a B-grade and clearance sale, giving shoppers a chance to find a discontinued print or a rare original design. Since recycled kimono stock is limited to what's on hand, it's a one-of-a-kind treasure hunt, so early visits are recommended.

Product Request Service

Due to limited display space at the venue, only some items can be shown in-store. For shoppers who want to check the feel of an item they saw in the online store before buying, KIMONOMACHI offers an advance product request service.

If in stock, requested items are brought in from the outside warehouse so shoppers can check them in person at the sale.

How to request an item

  1. Check the product number: Find the 6-digit product number on the item's page in the official online store. Up to 5 items can be requested per group; noting the desired size helps things go smoothly.
  2. Contact the store at least 3 business days before your visit: Since items need to be brought in from the warehouse, get in touch by phone or email at least 3 business days before your planned visit, with your name, contact details, and preferred visit date and time.
  3. Check the item at the venue: If in stock, the item will be brought in and ready for you at your requested date and time.
