The Maison et Voyage Azabudai Hills store is releasing an original Gurkha sandal collection from April 17 (Friday). Alongside a restock of the popular black colorway from last year, two new options — brown suede and white — are being introduced.
The collection was designed exclusively for Maison et Voyage by Manabu Kaneko of CALMANTHOLOGY (カルマンソロジー), with "dress" and "classical" sensibility at its core. The last is a narrow-toe dress shape with a restrained silhouette, and the sole construction is designed to allow the natural rolling gait of leather footwear.
The belt upper is designed to balance coverage — the amount of open space is adjusted gradually from the toe toward the strap so that the toe clefts are largely concealed, lending the sandal a refined appearance closer to a leather shoe.
The V-shaped cutout through which the strap passes narrows toward the toe, creating a visual continuity with the center crease of trousers. The buckle is set back with a covering line to prevent contact with the foot. Each cut edge is finished with welt piping to maintain the silhouette and prevent distortion over time.
