About Meiji Kinenkan

The main building of Meiji Kinenkan was originally completed in 1881 (Meiji 14) as the "Akasaka Temporary Imperial Palace Dining Hall" at the current location of the State Guest House. In 1888 (Meiji 21), it became the venue for Privy Council meetings to deliberate the draft of the "Constitution of the Empire of Japan," which Emperor Meiji attended without fail. Due to this historical significance, the main building is also called the "Constitution Memorial Hall."

After being relocated to its current site, it has hosted nationally and socially significant events including the 30th anniversary ceremony of the Constitution's promulgation, the 50th anniversary ceremony of the Imperial Rescript on Education, general meetings of the Japanese Red Cross Society and the Patriotic Women's Association, and commemorative events for the Saiseikai Imperial Gift Foundation.

In 1947 (Showa 22), the opening ceremony was held as "Meiji Kinenkan," a comprehensive wedding venue. Since then, it has celebrated the new beginnings of over 230,000 couples. Today, in addition to weddings, the venue is used for various purposes including MICE events such as parties and conferences, celebration parties, life milestone ceremonies, and dining at restaurants and kaiseki restaurants.

In 2020 (Reiwa 2), the main building was designated as a Tokyo Tangible Cultural Property (Building) in recognition of its historical and architectural value.
