Mercure Yokosuka Hosts "Very Matcha!" Early Summer Afternoon Tea in Collaboration with Historic Local Wagashi Shop (May 1–June 30, 2026)

Bistro Bourgogne, the 19th-floor restaurant at Mercure Yokosuka (3-27 Honcho, Yokosuka, Kanagawa), is hosting a limited-time afternoon tea called "Very Matcha! Fall in Love with Matcha — Early Summer Afternoon Tea" from May 1 (Friday) to June 30 (Tuesday), 2026. The hotel is a 1-minute walk from Shioiri Station on the Keikyu Line.

This is the second installment of the seasonal "VERY COLLECTION" afternoon tea series, which launched in February 2026. Each edition focuses on seasonal local ingredients and stories from the Miura Peninsula, under the concept of "DISCOVER LOCAL."

First Collaboration with Sakakura Sohonke, a Yokosuka Wagashi Institution Since 1891

Sakakura Sohonke mini dorayaki with matcha cream, created exclusively for Mercure Yokosuka

This edition marks the first collaboration between Mercure Yokosuka and Sakakura Sohonke, a local Japanese confectionery shop that has been operating since 1891. Founded by Inosuke Sakakura in Yokosuka, the shop has been cherished in the city for generations and is known for its dorayaki and the "Yokosuka Navy Yokan" — a sweet bean jelly that was once supplied to the former Imperial Japanese Navy.

"This elegant mini dorayaki perfectly balances the slight bitterness of matcha with the gentle sweetness of our house-made sweet bean paste. It's a perfect fit for afternoon tea." — Masato Sakakura, 6th generation representative of Sakakura Sohonke

Mercure Yokosuka Exclusive: Mini Dorayaki with Matcha Cream

The shop's popular "Yokosuka Dorayaki with Matcha Cream" has been reimagined in a smaller, bite-sized format exclusively for this collaboration. Each piece is handcrafted by skilled artisans, preserving the fluffy texture, house-made sweet red bean paste, and refined matcha cream of the original, with an additional finish from the hotel's chefs.

Mercure Yokosuka Exclusive: Matcha Cannoli with Yokosuka Navy Yokan

Matcha cannoli topped with Yokosuka Navy Yokan

The Yokosuka Navy Yokan, beloved since the Meiji era, is served as a topping on a cannoli filled with matcha and custard cream. The gentle sweetness of Japanese sweet bean jelly combines with the lighter richness of the Western pastry — a pairing that reflects Yokosuka's blend of Eastern and Western cultures.

Drinkable Sweet and Signature Beverages

Very Matcha! Matcha Chocolate Oat Milk non-alcoholic cocktail

The afternoon tea begins with a "drinkable sweet": the non-alcoholic "Very Matcha! Matcha Chocolate Oat Milk." It brings together the aromatic quality of matcha, the depth of chocolate, and the lightness of oat milk. Served in a gold-accented presentation, it suits special occasions such as anniversaries and celebrations.

Yokosuka Cherry Cheesecake, served as a welcome sweet

The "Yokosuka Cherry Cheesecake," the hotel's local signature dessert, is served as a welcome sweet. Its recipe has roots in dishes brought by the US military stationed in Yokosuka, making it another reflection of the city's cross-cultural heritage.

The drink selection features Ronnefeldt teas, including the hotel's own "Mercure Yokosuka Special Royal Milk Tea" — made using Ronnefeldt tea leaves — which pairs well with the matcha-based sweets.

Views of Yokosuka Bay

The afternoon tea is served with a view of Yokosuka Port from the 19th floor.
