newQ Pineapple Sweets Shop Opens at Naha Airport on June 21, 2026

newQ, a sweets shop born on Kokusai-dori in Okinawa, is opening a new location at Naha Airport on Sunday, June 21, 2026. With a concept of "delivering a new Okinawan standard," the brand blends the distinctive flavors of Okinawa with fresh, contemporary ideas.

Since opening its flagship Kokusai-dori location in July 2022, newQ has built a loyal following. The new store will be located on the 2nd floor of Naha Airport, within the domestic-international connecting corridor (Yuinichi Street on the international side). In addition to newQ's premium gift items, the location will also offer 100% Ishigaki Island pineapple juice.

The store name is a portmanteau of "Ryukyu" — the historical name for Okinawa — and "new." The capital Q stands for "Question," representing the wish for visitors and residents alike to discover a "New Question," a whole new side of Okinawa.

Tida Pine: Award-Winning Okinawan Pineapple

Tida Pine pineapple from Ishigaki Island

Most of the pineapples used in newQ's products are "Toume-san's Tida Pine" from Ishigaki Island — a new variety developed over more than eight years by master farmer Toume, earning the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Award at the 10th National Fruit Juice Technology Management Division competition in 2009. The greatest characteristic of this pineapple is its exceptional sweetness in every drop of juice. "Tida" means "sun" in the Okinawan dialect, and among the nation's top pineapple-producing region, only Toume-san can grow this particular variety.
