"Japan Night View Heritage" is a project by the Night View Convention & Visitors Bureau (Representative Director: Motoou Marumaru) aimed at regional revitalization and tourism support through night view resources.

The "Japan Night View Heritage" recognition of "View-O" was added as one additional site to the 20th "Japan Night View Heritage" newly certified locations announced in September 2025. This time, 9 sites were newly certified as Night View Heritage from 172 candidate locations nationwide.

Among the four Night View Heritage categories, 2 "Natural Night View Heritage" sites, 5 "Facility-type Night View Heritage" sites, and 2 "Lightup Night View Heritage" sites were added, bringing the total number of Night View Heritage sites nationwide to 303, including additions and removals.

"View-O" is Japan's largest-class water gate, completed in 2004 as a tsunami countermeasure for Tokai earthquakes.

In 2025, due to the aging of the lighting equipment, it underwent a complete renewal with the latest full-color LED floodlights.

Through a DMX control system, it enables delicate control by combining brightness, gradation, and blinking to create expressive presentations.

The fantastical lightup, which varies richly by season and day of the week, was highly evaluated.

The "Japan Night View Heritage Certification Project" aims to rediscover and excavate beautiful night views buried throughout Japan, add value to them, and promote the existence of night views as tourism resources.

The term "Heritage" in "Japan Night View Heritage" was chosen to convey the meaning of preserving the relationship between excellent night views and the places where they can be appreciated for future generations.

In July 2004, the Japan Night View Heritage Office was established, and it has been actively promoting the appeal of night views both domestically and internationally as an original Japanese culture by adding value to beautiful night views.
