Vincent van Gogh, The Drawbridge (《跳ね橋》)

The painting depicts a drawbridge that Van Gogh painted repeatedly after moving to Arles in southern France. Vivid yellows, greens and reds are layered over the clear blue sky and the soft, pale colors of the waterside, portraying a sun-drenched southern French landscape. The bold, short brushstrokes and sharp color contrasts make a strong impression.

The magnet carefully recreates Van Gogh's distinctive bold brushwork. With attention to the texture and three-dimensionality of each element, including the lush trees and leaves, the sparkle of the water's surface and the imposing drawbridge, the height of the relief and the colors have been finely adjusted. By expressing the vivid colors and brushstrokes in three dimensions, the magnet lets you feel the sunlight of southern France and its calming natural scenery with your fingertips.

Édouard Manet, Bunch of Asparagus (《アスパラガスの束》)

This still life is said to have been painted by Manet in his later years at a villa on the outskirts of Paris, where he was staying to recuperate. White asparagus stands out against a dark background, rendered with rough, bold brushstrokes and delicate layering of color that give it a rich presence. The work shows Manet's excellent sense of color and mature brushwork.

Strong contrast between the background and the asparagus gives a sense of spatial depth even within the flat picture. The asparagus in particular is rendered three-dimensionally, with attention to the shape of each stalk and how the stalks overlap, recreating the way they seem to emerge from the dark background. The glossiness of the surface has also been carefully adjusted to convey a fresh, dewy texture.

Henri-Edmond Cross, Setting Sun over the Sea (《海に沈む夕陽》)

From 1891 until his death, Cross lived in Saint-Clair in the Provence region of southern France and painted many seascapes. This work is one of them, depicting a Mediterranean landscape in pointillist technique, centered on the glow of the sun just about to sink into the water at dusk.

Fine relief has been applied precisely to match each individual dot of pointillist brushwork. The distinctive look of overlapping grains of color is reproduced in three dimensions, so that the appeal of Cross's pointillism can be enjoyed through touch as well. To express the dreamlike colors faithfully, the colors were adjusted many times, bringing the atmosphere of a beautiful, calm evening scene, in which the sunlight melts into the water, directly into the magnet.
