The 50th Anniversary OSAMU GOODS Exhibition Opens December 10 at Nagoya City Art Museum

The 50th Anniversary OSAMU GOODS Exhibition will be held at Nagoya City Art Museum (Naka Ward, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture) from Thursday, December 10, 2026 to Friday, January 22, 2027.

OSAMU GOODS (オサムグッズ) was born in 1976, when illustrator Osamu Harada (1946–2016) drew inspiration from Mother Goose, the traditional English children's tales. The imagery came from girls he saw in American magazines of the 1960s such as Seventeen and from the cute actresses who appeared in Hollywood films. The props and everyday items around them also served as hints.

Harada defined "kawaii" (cute) as having a bright, carefree, healthy expression, with a slight touch of loneliness and wistfulness as a subtle accent. This idea is vividly expressed in his work, and from the late 1970s through the 1990s OSAMU GOODS gained great popularity, mainly among junior and senior high school students through women in their twenties.

The exhibition introduces the appeal of OSAMU GOODS, which turns 50 in 2026, together with materials from the time. It explores why the brand has been loved by so many people across generations, and the design philosophy behind it.
