Aurora and Forest Stories Exhibition Opens in Nagoya This Summer with Immersive Nordic Experience

This summer, Nagoya plays host to an immersive exhibition that transports visitors into the world of the Northern Lights and Nordic forests. "Aurora to Mori no Monogatari" (Aurora and Forest Stories: What Hygge and Fairy Tales Taught Us) runs from Saturday, July 11 to Sunday, August 30, 2026 at Denki Bunka Kaikan in central Nagoya — marking the venue's 40th anniversary.

The exhibition is organized by the Aurora to Mori no Monogatari Exhibition Executive Committee (TV Aichi, Hands Pro, BV Communications), with co-organizer support from the Chunichi Shimbun and Denki Bunka Kaikan (Chuden Real Estate).

Main Area: Aurora Immersive Theater

The centerpiece of the exhibition is the "オーロラ・イマーシブシアター" — a large-scale immersive theater where visitors can experience the magical interplay of light that defines the Nordic seasons and aurora borealis.

Spring brings the stirrings of life; summer fills the sky with the midnight sun that never quite sets; autumn blazes with vivid foliage; and winter reveals the aurora in full splendor. The theater weaves these scenes together, capturing the harsh yet breathtaking beauty of Nordic nature.

Multiple Nordic Experience Areas

Beyond the main theater, the exhibition offers a variety of hands-on zones themed around Nordic nature, daily life, and fairy tales.

Lantern Forest

Step into a forest of birch trees and gentle lantern light. The space evokes the quiet atmosphere and subtle scents of a Nordic woodland.

Crystal Ice Room / Nordic Living

The Crystal Ice Room is a fantastical space surrounded by furniture that appears carved from ice — a cool, otherworldly retreat from the summer heat.

The Nordic Living area recreates a Scandinavian interior, inviting visitors to experience the warmth of Nordic furniture and the thoughtful design that characterizes everyday life in the region.

Fairy Tale Forest / Nordic Fashion Photo Spot

The Fairy Tale Forest brings Andersen stories to life through video and immersive scenery, creating the feeling of stepping inside a picture book.

At the Nordic Fashion Photo Spot, visitors wearing light-colored clothing can have colorful Nordic-style patterns projected onto them for a photogenic keepsake.

About the Exhibition

The Nordic countries are known for long, dark winters — yet they consistently rank at the top of global happiness surveys. Behind that paradox are concepts like "Hygge" (the Danish art of creating a cozy, convivial atmosphere) and "Lagom" (the Swedish value of finding just the right balance), which shape how people approach everyday life and well-being.

The exhibition offers a way to explore those ideas firsthand — through stunning natural imagery, immersive spaces, and a celebration of Nordic culture — and perhaps find a few of those "fragments of happiness" along the way.
