The real-world event "Pokémon GO Wild Area: Sendai • Tohoku" for the smartphone location-based game Pokémon GO will take place across Sendai and all of Miyagi Prefecture for three days, from Friday, November 6 to Sunday, November 8, 2026.
Pokémon GO Wild Area is a large-scale real-world event that originated in Japan, where players can meet and battle Pokémon while walking around town and sightseeing. It was first held in Fukuoka in 2024, followed by Nagasaki last year. This year marks the third edition, and it will be held in two cities: Sendai and Mexico City. The Pokémon GO Wild Area: Nagasaki event drew approximately 420,000 participants during the event period and generated an economic impact of approximately 4.2 billion yen, creating opportunities for tourism and exchange.
The event aims to let visitors experience the culture and history of the region through the game and the real world, rediscover its appeal, and support the local economy. For this edition, which coincides with Pokémon GO's 10th anniversary, the game play area has been expanded from Sendai to all of Miyagi Prefecture, as the event is held in a region that has deepened its ties through recovery efforts.
Alongside special in-game experiences, the event includes the "GO Stamp Rally" visiting local landmarks and attractions, town walks decorated in the world of Pokémon GO, photo spots, and limited exhibitions. Many of these can be enjoyed by people without an event ticket and by families with children. Highlights include greetings with "Tanabata Matsuri-gokko Pikachu" and "Professor Willow's Assistant Pikachu," a special collaboration with the "Sendai Suzume Odori," and regional art exhibitions.
Real-World Event Experiences
Venues around Sendai, the main site of the event, host a variety of real-world activities that anyone can enjoy beyond the game. These include greetings with various Pokémon, photogenic Pokémon decorations around the city ("ポケジェニック"), and a special collaboration performance with the "Sendai Suzume Odori," blending local content with Pokémon. Tie-in programs are also planned to help visitors discover new sides of Sendai and the Tohoku region.
In Sendai City and Miyagi Prefecture
- Greetings with Pokémon: Tsutsujigaoka Park welcomes Pokémon Center Tohoku's "Tanabata Matsuri-gokko Pikachu," along with Chansey, the Fukushima Support Pokémon, and Geodude, the Iwate Support Pokémon. At AEON Mall Sendai Kamisugi, visitors can meet Lapras, the Miyagi Support Pokémon, and "Professor Willow's Assistant Pikachu."
- Art exhibition: The Sendai City Museum will exhibit artwork from the loading screens that are normally seen only when the app is launched.
- Town-walk decorations and Tanabata displays: Pokémon-themed Tanabata decorations will appear in shopping streets in central Sendai, and photogenic Pokémon decorations will be placed around the city, making good spots for souvenir photos during a walk.
- Sendai Suzume Odori special collaboration: A collaboration performance pairing Sendai's traditional "Suzume Odori" dance with Pikachu will be held at the Sun Mall Ichibancho Shopping Street.

Special Programs Tied to Sightseeing
- Shopping and accommodation campaign: Show the Pokémon GO game screen when shopping at participating stores in Sendai to receive an original event sticker, or when staying at participating accommodations in Miyagi Prefecture to receive an original event coaster.

It was released on Tuesday, November 3, ahead of the event, and can still be enjoyed after the event ends.
