Shimoda Aquarium, an interactive aquarium located in Shimoda City, Shizuoka Prefecture, will hold a special fish feeding show featuring a diver dressed as a red demon in celebration of Setsubun, Japan's traditional bean-throwing festival on February 3.
Red Demon Diver Returns for Annual Setsubun Event
To commemorate Setsubun on February 3, the Discovery Ocean fish feeding show in the Aqua Dome Perry large tank will feature a diver dressed as a "red demon." This beloved annual event has become a favorite among visitors, as fish swarm around the demon diver distributing food, creating a heartwarming scene reminiscent of demon-banishing traditions.

Shimoda Aquarium opened in March 1967 as an interactive aquarium operated by Shimoda Aqua Service Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Fujita Kanko Inc. Using a rare natural inlet, the aquarium is home to dolphins, sea lions, seals, penguins, otters, and marine life from the waters around the Izu Peninsula.
The aquarium offers extensive interactive programs including feeding experiences and the opportunity to swim with dolphins, creating an unusually close connection between visitors and marine animals.
