About Shimoda Aquarium

Shimoda Aquarium opened in March 1967 as an experiential aquarium operated by Shimoda Aqua Service Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Fujita Kanko. The facility is one of Japan's rare aquariums utilizing a natural inlet. The aquarium exhibits dolphins, sea lions, seals, penguins, otters, and marine life inhabiting the waters near the Izu Peninsula. With abundant feeding programs and activities where visitors can swim with dolphins, the aquarium's defining feature is the exceptionally close interaction between visitors and marine life.
